Gone to the dark side.

I have to testify. I have sinned. I cut the nose off 3 of my thermal planes and will
be flying them electric (ALES). It is neat to go out to the field for 30 min. and launch without spending time putting out a Histart or winch. After launch I have a sailplane that is only a few ounces heavier than it was in thermal config. In the rare event that I get in trouble downwind I can rescue myself without a machete.

That's it, I'm bringing my winch with me to every ALES contest I go to.
Do you think I should change the line on it?... It's a few years old.
Do you think that if I put new line on my winch, it will help me land better?

This guy is actually very smart. Maybe too smart. It seems to me that he has over thought this soaring thing to the point of unreality. He is so hung up in his theories that conventional wisdom can't touch his intellect... (in his mind). He really hasn't come off at the field as totally obnoxious as Highstarter did... yet... so I have to give him the benefit of the doubt... for now. He has been banned from these forums several times, under several names for being obnoxious. I'm hoping he gets the message about flying with us... and keeps it under wraps.

I actually kind of miss Al. I sort of liked some of his oddball ideas. I think the Hot Air Masters format is about the perfect format for relaxed club contests.

I didn't like his group/personal attacks though.

Actually I don't think Al had a problem with motors/propellers. In fact one time he wrote about the enjoyment he got working thermals with a slow stick.

He attacked the competition plane establishment (basically people who enjoy TD and enjoy molded sailplanes).

Regarding hi starter... Giving an opinion, and attacking, are 2 different things.
I've seen him attacked for giving his opinion.

Below is a good example I think, in this thread, of someone attacking another group and another member... and goes way beyond an opinion.

Or LAGERS. LAGERS is the superior format.
