Machine gun sound unit

Here is my RAM machine gun sound unit. I lightened it up by shortening up all the wires and getting rid of the 9volt. It use to way 76 grams and now weighs 66 grams. All up weight with up the battery, servo and container it weighs 130grams. It use to weigh 119 with just the battery and unit no servo or container. Plan is to put it in the Stuka. It is too big for the Spad.

I now have the total all up weight to 120 grams. I plan to get a smaller lipo to save an additional 12 grams.

This thing just wasn't loud enough when flying. I might have to put the 9 volt back in it and see if it helps. The poor 450 motor Cub labored with its payload on board.

I have experimented with my sound unit and found that I can eliminate the servo and momentary switch by using a Turnigy remote cut off switch. I'll solder it together and then weigh it. herehttp://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...d_Switch_.html

I can't get the Turnigy remote receiver switch to work. Any help would be appreciated.

When you converted your sound unit to lipo, did you go from the 9v down to 7.4v (2s) or up to 11.1v (3s) ?

A guy at the field told me that he ran his unit on 3s without any issues. I have the siren...and have not yet incorporated it into a built, but we thinking of doing the same (3s).

That's good to know. The manual warned not to exceed 9volts, but the advertisement listed 9v-18v. I know at higher voltage you could blow out the speaker. Good to know that someone else hasn't had a problem on 3s. I might just connect it to the 3s with a separate UBEC like the manual that came with the switch showed.

I rewired the ESC to have a UBEC and several extra wires for the machine gun sound module. I now understand that the negative of the machine gun needs a common ground to activate the remote receiver switch. Just need to hook it all up and test it. As Bombay mentioned some people have used the RAM unit on 3s without trouble.

Yep, just be aware that you could potentially fry something. I plan to email RAM in the future and ask them about 11 volts.

I think with my moded ESC I will try the 2s neg linked to 3s neg first. I will use JST one for a CC 10amp UBEC, one 4MM for my SPC in the A-9 receiver, One JST will be a spare if I indeed don't use a separate battery I can power with that, and one 4mm for the ground[neg-] of the Sound module. I just might call Ralph at RAM and ask him about 11 volt too, but I kind of figure he will say "at your own risk".

Thanks for the inspiration. I have a 3-way siren from RAM that I will reconfigure in this way (with the switch). Who knows, I may even juice it with 3s power.

My new plan for this machine gun unit is to mount it on the transmitter and put the momentary switch back on it. It just isn't loud enough while flying to make the extra weight worth it. I'll just use my finger to touch the switch which will be velcroed on the back of my transmitter to make the noise. Should be better then using my mouth.
