Spartan Executive? The ultimate Golden Age gentleman's plane. Radio Modeller did a construction rticle on it, pretty sure I've still got the magazine around. Love that wing shape!

Thans to all for the ideas, lots of beautiful planes. Skycruiser, the exec is gorgeous. I did some research and the magazine included full size plans, but from 1995 it's probably pretty beefy, definitely need some serious lightening. It would look fantastic in monokote chrome though

. If you still have the plans I might be interested in a purchase, if you can part with them. Still have the staggerwing floating around in my head though

Hmm, the article having full size plans doesn't ring a bell, but I'll see if I can dig the magazine out this weekend.

Not to make this more confusing, but if you are looking for an AT-6 type that's not an AT-6, I'd suggest the Commonwealth Wirraway or Boomerang. Both have uncomplicated 90 degree retracts. Food for thought.

Spartan Executive X2. The only smaller sized RC plans I know of were sold by T&D Plans , but it looks like they are out of business and the web domain is for sale. I wonder if the owner also intended to sell the rights to the actual plans?

Jerry Bates Plans has a 1/4 scale plan.

Not retracts, but the cessna 195 is also a nice looking civilian design. The bellanca crusair is another nice one.

What about a classic Beechcraft Bonanza V35? I have built a 30" version and she's an excellent flyer that looks fantastic in the air.

Sorry for the hijack...but I've been looking around (and asking about) AT-6 kits and plans for a very long time. Don't care if it's called AT-6, Harvard, or Texan. Slim pickin's so far.

What size? I think Nick Ziroli drew up a 1/2A-size AT-6 for MAN some years back. While the structure might need adaptation to e-power, the outlines were pretty good. I believe I have a copy of those... If I can find it, you can have it.

What size? 50-60" would be nice. A few years back I built and destroyed a 1/2A sized Herr AT-6. It was a botched attempt (actually, my first attempt) at e-conversion, and ended up heavy, to the point where it was beyond my flying skills at the time. Ideally it would be something like a Tritle or Rake design -- ie., light.

Certainly not 50-60", more like 36" as I recall. It was free plan, included in the magazine, so not really a big model. I think the drawn-in engine was a Norvel .061 or the like. Decidedly un-Tritle-esque!

The (double-sided) plan sheet might be worth enlarging, but then one departs from a ready-to-go plan, don't they?

I just remembered this thread I started and wanted to thank all who contributed. I've got some great suggestions that could turn into future builds. Just to put a finish on it, I've decided to build Ivan Pettigrew's 100" PBY Catalina. I've always admired his planes and decided I'm as ready as I ever will be to take on the challenge.
