I don't understand your question. It's a parachute that prevents UAVs from crash-landing. How could that possibly be a bad thing?

That's really good but...389$ for a parachute...what's in there for it to be so costly ..there's probably just an accelerometer which can detect if its in a free fall and then activate a servo interrupt that's it!!!..... thinking of which an open source project like the Arducopter project will be quick to adopt this as there is no hardware change required to the existing APM 2.5 for this..anyways nice idea

From the specs page on their website it looks like there is no electronics at all. It's just a tube with a spring and a parachute inside. If/when the servo triggers is up to you or your receiver's FS setting or whatever. Yes, there are cheaper and better options for just the mechanical part. For 400 bucks you would expect some sort of "free fall detector" that triggers the whole thing. Can't believe nobody came up with such an implementation yet.

I am going to get this going on the DIYdrones site and see how many developers I can get interested into this prospect of at-least saving their expensive fpv equipment laden multicopter...when the MCU goes kaput....
