What equipment for GPS-based Waypoint travel?

I've been out of RC for about 3 years. I have some Spektrum gear, a bunch of lipo batteries (hopefully some still work!), and a desire to get back into it, but I want to do a quadrocopter. The purpose of it will be to fit a camera and I'd love to have some GPS waypointing ability--really something quite automated such that it can basically fly itself.

What's the go-to item on the market now for this kind of thing? Budget is not unlimited! But technology has surely introduced some lovely gadgets in the past few years that either didn't exist before or were quite expensive.

Thanks, Nick. Now I feel like a guy asking if $1500 is enough to get three seconds off his car's quarter mile.

I may have to stick to one of the more manual copters after all

I think that both Arducopter and Openpilot have waypoint navigation.

You could just buy one of these controllers: APM 2.5 *edit I guess you need the still unreleased Revo with Openpilot.*

Just noticed you are in the US so I think you need the 900mhz version of the APM kit. They sell that version too.

pelagic,

the CC3D doesn't have GPS or waypoints.

I think he means the Revo that is not out yet but was available via kickstarter. However I do not think the firmware supports any advanced features like waypoint and RTH just yet.

Yes my bad, I was looking at the Revo not the cc3d. I know I saw a slide with waypoints there somewhere.
