Dumas Chris craft triple cockpit

Hi everyone,

After reading your threads for 5 years, I decided to create mine to show you my first boat building that I completed 4 years ago when I was 18. Please excuse me for my bad english (as I'm French ).

I made some small modifications on the original boat as you will see: cockpit coaming, hand-made extinguisher etc.

As the topic title suggests, my first boat was a triple cockpit. Here are some pics of the thing (the fore flagpole is too long on the photos but has been cut since they were taken and excuse me if some are bad quality and instagram-like! )

I will soon start a build thread of my baby bootlegger that I have been building for almost one year now.

Edit: I added some new pics but unfortunately, they are iPhone ones as my camera seems to have problems. For the engine hatch, nothing special was done except putting real aluminium sheet instead of aluminium tape. The motor is a Graupner 700 BB turbo and finally, as you will see, the ruder needs to be red-painted. Just a word about the stand: It's made of 1.5 meters wood plank painted in white with a smaller frame on the center with real planks of mahogany caulked (I don't know if this means something! ) with real silicon as on the real boats.
In fact there are still small details I want to improve but I'm working on the Baby Bootlegger for the moment.

If you were building like that at 18 there is no telling what you can do when you are an "old guy" like me! How about some picks of the hatch straps as well as the interior? NICE!

Wow!

Wonderful first build. And I like your choice of boats (my first build was a Triple).

How did you get that great shine on the mahogany?

Thanks oldtribefan!! I am very pleased of your comment as I consider your triple as an example of perfection!

As far as the shining is concerned, I processed this way:

- 2 coats of polyurethane varnish G4 which is in fact a sort of resin allowing the polyester to grip well on the wood

- 5 coats of polyester resin with glass coat

- After that, I sanded the hull with 600 grit sandpaper and loads of water, I sprayed 3 coats of high quality bomb varnish for car bodies.

- Then, I water-sanded the whole hull with 2000 grit sandpaper

- And finally I put about 10 coats of car body polish.

By the way, I will send others pics tomorrow beacause the sun has already set here in Paris and the photos wouldn't be good without natural light!

Pierre,

The automotive clear and polish really do work well. That's what I used on my boat, too.

The stand that you made for her is really sweet!
