LIPO's really BLOW UP

LIPO batteries really blow up. I was charging a set of 1500Mah 3S1P batteries, watching telly downstairs, heard a loud bang. Smoke alarm went off, went upstairs and bedroom on fire. Lucky I had a fire extinguisher in the house. Put out fire. Damage was formica table burnt, computer scarnner wrecked, an area of about 3 square metres burnt. so heed all the warnings LITHIUM BATTERIES REALLY EXPLODE BIG TIME. Take Care

i'm curious too. Every incident I've heard about regarding Lipo's has been the caused by stupidity or human error.

Stories like this made me start charging my LIPO's in a Pyrex baking pan. I've never had a problem, but you never know.

sorry to hear about that jan. pay no attention name-calling edited by moderator. some people really like to kick a man when he's down. a similar explosion happened to me once. it was probably due to charging a pack that had been damaged by either overdischarge or imbalance. i also had a fire extinguisher on hand, and was able to save the house. anyone who owns lithiums should have a fire extinguisher handy.

Did you think it was a myth? There's a video of one "blowing up" in the Battery's forum..

First issue I see - Your charging them, unattended.. Bad, bad idea..

What charger are you using? Was the setup correct?

As someone else mentioned, please be honest with what happened..

When you violate any rule in the The Ultimate Guide to Lithium Polymer Batteries, you're only asking for trouble.
Not to kick you again Ben, but you did mess up big time in multiple ways.

Now HOW IN THE HECK do you know he messed up big time im multiple ways???? he was there, had a smoke detector and a fire extinguisher. I never stand over my packs for the 1 1/2 hours it takes to charge them, I set them in their safe charging container and let the charger work.h

I have noticed that the packs that have exploded so far are 3S packs. I can't remember a 2S pack exploding like that.

correct me if I am wrong.
