I understand, I will probably buy a complete kit eventually but I also really want to try to rewind some large motors and mold my own carbon gimbal to hold a dslr or heavier cameras.

@kinderkram based on what you wrote, is 350$ 'officially' in that area ?
FPVmodels posted his estimated price of 150-200$ for the controller on page1.
Depending on the motors and the gimbal we might end up in the area.

I think everyone should show more patience (though I know it's hard).

I guess it'll be several more weeks before you can order some...
But I'm neither the manufacturer nor the vendor so it's more wild guessing & wishful thinking...

Are these final kits picky about which flight controller you use? Could you use a KK or KK2 or does it need to be an OP or NAZA say?

There are no final kits or pricing at this point. it is a complete stand alone system, can run with any flight controller or with none for that matter, it has it's own controller and sensors.

There was a group buy in a German FPV forum. ~100pcs gone in 1 day - all sold out.
But: this was only the controller. The software itself is far from being ready, far from what Alex' has achieved - hugh difference.

Since the German version is Open Source, others might chime in there and bring the fw forth. Time will show if the controller I ordered will end up as a paperweight or not.

Alex' version is ready and once the hw is available, it can be used from scratch.
Having a GUI to setup the controller is also a great plus!

I was just about to get a big belt driven gimbal for big DSLR and alikes, but after reading this amazing thread I think I will hold on to my money for a while!

Keep in mind that these are all prototypes atm.

btw.: There's a nice GUI to setup the Gimbal

Does DJI offer anything like this for their customers?
No - if you want to change a lense you need to send it in to DJI for a firmware adjustment.
Is this interface from Alex system or the German open source?
Looks very good too!

Anyone knows if any of the big brands that signed with Alex for use of his software are already testing products for release?
I saw AV200 with Direct Drive is about to hit the market but after this thread, for U$3800, as well as the Zenmuse, they all seems totally over priced!

And it seems that abusive priced low quality poor performer gimbals days are finally about to be over!
Ohh happy days!

A good dedicated rewired from factory brushless motor should cost no more than $50-$100 per axis, a well engineered CF 3 axis gimbal around $200-400 and I don't think Alex boards will cost more than $200.
So for U$1000 it seems will be possible to have the killer apex gimbal at hands!

Sorry guys!
I'm just too excited with all I found here!

Looks like the tilt cannot perform 360 because it's blocked somewhere in the rotation...
Am I wrong ?
