New Syma S107 for nephew not working properly help please

Hi Everyone my wife and I bought a Syma S107 for our nephew and it charges up fine and the controller green light is solid (not blinking). The light on the heli blinks initially then turns solid green after it autobinds with the controller (on either A or B). BUT, the heli does not respond to the controller inputs unless I hold the heli in one hand and move the controller around to certain angles around the heli which causes the signal to somehow get through. Obviously it wont fly properly like this. Has anyone heard of this problem or is there a known issue with the controllers? Can I fix the controller somehow? We purschased it on Amazon and I dont think its a knockoff. Thanks

You do understand this heli is infrared, right?

No line of sight with sensor, no fly.

Thanks Steve I'm learning and very much a newbie to rc helis. So since it is infrared is there a proper angle that the heli should be used at? I would assume that the IR sensor would have a widely accessible "sweet spot" that would receive signals from the controller if its all working properly. When I'm trying to get it to work the heli is on a table and I'm holding the control just a few feet from it pointing it at the heli.

Low transmitter batteries will make it do that, try some new ones.

I don't know if it charges from the controller, but if it does, it will drain
AA alkaline cells flat in one day.

Replace the transmitter batteries, and do not charge helicopter from it.

Keep it away from big screen TVs and any kind of florescent lighting. They cause lots of interference even if they are not in the line of sight.

Bright light--window or outdoor--blinds the IR.

Confirm all 3 LEDs in the sender dome are working. Look at it with a cellphone camera while operating the throttle (heli off at this time).

If you're trying to fly it outside, that is the problem. Sunlight overpowers the infrared signal from these rc transmitters. You can only fly it indoors or at night. Even sunlight coming through a window will affect it.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I replaced the batteries in the controller to no avail. This has all been inside during the day (and evening) btw. I am 10-15ft away from the big screen and no flourescent lighting. How do I confirm the 3 LED's in the sender dome are working? Do they light up? I did notice that the LED's are not lined up perfectly in the controller dome. I just think its really strange almost like the signal from the controller is a small beam that only can communicate with the heli receiver if the perfect angle is transmitted at it.

One. One broken helicopter. Ah Ah Ah.

Two. Two broken helicopters Ah Ah Ah.

I'd like to add that this heli has never flown more than a couple feet up in the air and has incurred no accidents.

Ah Ah Ah.

Time to replace the flux capacitor with a variable length belt.

Lining all your walls floors and ceiling with mirrors seems to help, too.

Sometimes you can use the remote to your TV to test fly the heli.

Seriously, take apart the TX, one or more of the IR LED's may
have a bad solder joint.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, return it as defective.

I'll try taking it apart. Can't return it because the kids had to open their gifts immediately on Christmas eve and all the manuals/boxes got thrown away at the same time. I'll probably end up ordering a new one.

It would be good to have a spare on hand for parts.

You are using Alkaline cells, correct? They give stronger signal
on some TX's.

My infrared heli does not get a good signal when it's on the ground.
Only when it's flying around. Sometimes I would hand launch because of this.
