Another perspective, Wooden boom is mounted vertically along the rudder/stabilizer (left side) and it really caused the plane to yaw to the left. Crabbed all over the place trying to fly a straight line and land it.

that thing looks like it flys very nice! ive been building the hobbyking namc ys-11. well i was building it, but ive took a break from it. but you've definitly built yours much faster than i have. im going to put retracts on mine too. but i love the quality of these kits!! and you cant beat the price. ive been wanting to buy that c-160, but opted for the ys-11 instead.

I came very close to getting that plane instead of the C-160.
I agree, both kits seem be be great value.

i was always keeping my eye on it when it was $95, just looking for any excuse to get it. then they dropped the price to $69. and that was all the excuse i needed. they both are just so cool looking planes. yours looks like it just floats to the ground & lands smooth

Thats because of the Twinstar win I used instead of the stock wing. Twice the wing area!

Transall C-160 build log

Since I installed the Twinstar wing on the Transall C-160 I have a leftover Twinstar fuselage and the stock Transall wing. I think a swap will work just fine.

Here is how it went:

epoxied a wood saddle with blind nuts for the wing to attach to:

Used the leftover Twinstar nylon attachment strap to hold down the front of the wing. Had to drill two holes thru the wing.

After a lot of adjustments and sanding it seems to fit pretty good.
Current weight with motors, ESC's servos but no Rx or batteries is 2 lbs 12 oz.
With a 4400 3 cell battery (13 oz) the total all up weight should be 60 oz
This gives a wing loading of 27.27 oz per sq. ft.

were going to start calling you "Dr-c. Frankenstein". or "Dr-c. Frankenplane". i love the looks of those c-160 & c-130 wings. somebody needs to re-do a C-130 foamie! gws is the only one i can think of. and its out-dated.

Transall/Twinstar is ready for Monday test flight:

All up weight: 4 lbs 2 oz. (w/4400 mah 3 cell battery)
2 x 810 kv brushless
9x7 3 blade Master Airscrew
Total thrust w/4400 mah 3 cell: 5 lbs 2 oz.

Test flight Monday:

Twinstar 2 hybrid (with Transall C-160 stock wing) flew great!
Very windy day. Launched and climbed up rock steady. Flew like a hotliner. Low wing loading = extended gliding. Floated in for a slow landing (less than 15 feet on grass.) 3 cell's give more than enough power. 9" props caught slightly on the grass when landing. 8" 3 blade props with 4 cell battery might be the best configuration.
