You're right about the effect on CG, I've done this on a lot of planes and you do have to offset the weight. The bigger problem was the boom flexing in flight, acting as a control surface of its own. That's why I fly pretty slow when I'm trying to get shots like this. I've also attached the boom to the far end of the wing with the camera looking back at the wing/fuselage (nice shot) , and also above and behind the rudder . The one shot I'd like to get is having the boom projecting straight up vertically above the plane with the camera looking back down on the planform of the plane. Next on my list.

First try with camera mount used a boom that had to much flex.
New one is a little shorter and 3/8" x 3/8" zero flex.
Here is the test footage:

Flight test Monday. Front mounted, rear facing camera worked pretty good. Those Twinstar wings do flex though:

EC Works,
Those flight videos are really impressive. Thanks for the camera reference. I think there is one of those #16 key chain cameras in my future.
Best,
Robert

Super fun videos. I love the boom angle looking back at the plane. I was shocked at how much the wings flexed in what appeared to be very tame flight.

Have you tried putting the camera in the cockpit? I've seen a couple of those videos and it's always a fun perspective.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

Cheers
Joe

No cockpit, just blue stickers for cockpit windows. I've had this camera stuck to just about everyplace you can stick one on the plane. Wings flexed because I accidentally hit the wrong switch (flap) right after takeoff. Also I was going way too fast. With the Twinstar wings it will float along very nicely, much lower stall speed than the stock wing.

Nav lights for the Transall
I used a few Glo Light sticks, just remove the actual lighting element. Very small and you can switch from the colored light in the front or the white light in the rear or the flashing colored light. Batteries last 200 hrs and free life time replacement batteries from the manufacturer:
