I'm going to be putting a Mega 3 turn geared 2:1 in a plane of mine, 8x4.5 CAM folder...PCalc says it'll be pulling 20.5A, but I know how inaccurate it is since every time I've run the #'s thru it someone with motocalc says I'm WAY off. My question is will these cells be able to take what the ACTUAL amp draw is...thinkin about using 7 or 8 cells...any more than that wont fit. Or is my only option to try fitting a 3s2p TP2100 setup awkwardly into the plane? I know the KAN 1050's are rated up to 20 amps, but need to know if the #'s I got from pcalc are accuate so I dont fry the packs. Dont have or want to waste money. Thanks

Will you need full power for the entire flight?
If so, KAN's won't do the job (with those numbers)..

Kans will be fine, they will get hot but will be fine.

I use a /3 with 8 1050 cells on a 4.75x4.75 prop, must draw about 20-25amps. Most of the flight is spent at full throttle.

Its actually a sailplane (I know wrong group, but you guys are whizzes when it comes to batts)...I'll only need full throttle for about 15-30 seconds before I'm at operational height. Will have well over 1:1 T2W so I'll DEF be vertical...anyone with motocalc wanna confirm the amp draw I got from pcalc, or does anyone know how accurate pcalc is? Appreciate the help guys

WHat about KR1100AAU? These are nicd and rated to handle 20A easily. Hard to get these cell though!

Andy...cant climb any other way where I fly...too many darn trees!!!...have to get up there fast otherwise even if I clear the trees I'd be scared I'd lose the plane...trees are well over 75 yrs old...100+ ft tall and field is small and surrounded by them...all the nitro guys go vertical immediately after takeoff for same reason...all my planes I have the skill to fly em fast in a small area.

If it's that tight, do you come down verticaly too ?

Thats what the spoilerons are for on mine lol...and all the nitro guys come down vertical, level off, and go full flaps. so yeah...lol...have to come down pretty much vertical...makes you concentrate on what youre doing though...if you run out of batt power, youre done for...no going around for 2nd pass...your only option is to do a little damage to the plane and get it down asap b4 you hit the trees...which I've done by the way when I was just learning

not sure on size and weight requirments but if you need a small compact cell the CP1300SCR and the HR-1700AUP will be much stronger at 20-30amps. but they are around the 1.2 oz range. But you could get away with 7 instead of the 8 KANs you were thinking of.

Or volt up if your speed controller can handle it. Say 10 KAN 650's. Maybe 9 or 10 KAN 1300/1400's. The extra voltage should be a huge help. If its just a matter of getting altitude quick then the voltage sag @ high amp draw on a high cell count pack should not matter. With 11 cells on my 3 turn brushless I pull 30amps on KAN 1400's. Then it settles to 27amps after about a minute. Sure the sag is there but watts are still strong for great climb.

Anyway just some thoughts.

Have a Phoenix 45 so the amps would be no problem...I'll look into that frederm...thanks for the recommendation BTW Thinking about going 3:1 instead just so I can swing a bigger prop at same amp draw.

Yes, would work. I pull 18A from my KAN950 full throttle ALL the time. 16/15/3 4,7x4,7 8cells in a microjet.

I must say the KANs are good, recharging at 3-5A emptying them in 3:30-4min and they still hold up! I´m impressed!

Then the only ? is how many cells do I want...7 or 8? Thinking 8 so I can use them in other applications. Appreciate the help guys.

i have 3 differents size battery configuration for my wattage f-22 with a mega 4-turn and apc 6X4.

They all take different spot in the plane for correct CG.

10-cell kan 950's
10-cell CBP 1400's
10-cell CBP 1800's
10-cell CP1300SCR's

the 950's work great cus its lighter.

I don't know what the amp draw is but the 950's can take it. i fluctuate between full/medium throtle when i fly so i guess its ok.
i cut into the air intake to so that air flows right over the batteries so its barely warm when i bring it down.
