Turnigy 9XR Unboxing with Battery Pics.

Guys...

My 9XR arrived today.

First impressions:

1. Pretty nice fit and finish...gimbals feel good too.

2. OrangeRX Spektrum module drops right in as you would expect.

3. Batteries...Use practically anything you have laying around! I grabbed a Turnigy 3S 1000mAh and a 3S 2200mAh and they both fit fine...see pics.

4. Carrying case...9XR fits fine but I will probably use some of the large foam insert to insure that the back of the radio is well supported.

Also..the radio came with a 2" x 3"( aprox) piece of sticky backed foam...not sure what this is for, maybe the battery compartment.

Cool surprise...kinda of...plugged in my battery and turned on the 9XR and immediately got an alert that my throttle stick was not in the idle position (which it was not) and a "push any button to continue" message. Hey...my 9C won't do that.

Overall first impression without any attempt at programing...a very nice radio.

HNY to all.

Thanks for the update and pics. What's the "Main Plug" socket for in the battery bay?

Wow, much more room in there than I expected. great I have plenty of 2200s I'm rather surprised at the size of the display. I think HK played a bit photography wise to make it appear much bigger. What were your feelings on seeing it for the first time?

Thanks for the peek and a Happy New Year to you

What shipping did you use? Looks like there might be part of a few EMS labels on there? How long was it in transit?

HK says mine shipped out Dec. 29 3AM (local US time) via EMS and I still can't see any tracking info. It starting to make me nervous.

Very neat. The first customer photos I have seen. That face plate looks gold, did you paint it? I know they will be releasing other face plates in the future.

A Few Answere to the questions

Hi Guys..

Let me try to answer a few questions:

(I do not own a 9X so I am going to use my DX7 and Futaba 9C as references).

I ordered my 9XR on the first day of release Dec. 25.

I used EMS for shipping and was surprised at how fast it arrived.
Total transit time was 4 days by my count (arrived Saturday).

No, the shiny parts are not gold tone (that must be an anomaly from my flash) but bright shiny silver.

The gimbals feel great. Smooooth!
Not as much spring tension as on my Futaba 9C...about like my DX7.

No notches on the throttle stick.

Battery compartment measurements (usable space): 25.4mm (D) x 44.8mm (H) x 123mm (L)

Some first impressions:

My 2200mAh battery lasts a looooong time. I spent about three hours messing around with the programing and barely saw any drop in the voltage.

The programing is very similar to the er9X software.

There are only 6 basic programming templates supplied with the radio.

If you were expecting a radio with lots of nice template for full house gliders or multi-servo flying surface control you'll be disappointed. I'm sure the really smart guys will have some additional templates that we can down-load pretty soon.

The manual that is on-line is at best very basic. Just jump in and start working with the radio and you'll get used to it's programing "personality".

In addition to the physical switches there are 6 additional virtual switches that you can set for almost any condition.

The back lit LCD is plenty bright and I think large enough.

The capability of this radio is very impressive. I expect it will take me a few months to really begin to exploit all the programming features.

The Turnigy 9XR on-line forum has been great at providing some great info regarding programing questions. This will clearly be the main source of support for 9XR users.

Here's some notes and video I made on er9x program mixing which might be useful to people starting off with er9x.

Understand a few key concepts on mixing and er9x becomes super-easy to program!

Youv'e fitted a 3S battery!?
That would mean this stupid TX is NOT of the 4AA cell 6 volt setup of most "moderne' 2.4 ghz Radios Including the newer Hobby King Brand ones.
Perhaps not such a bargain?
