Hey, John. Like any renowned artist, Rembrandt, etc. I think you should start singing your name to all of your projects. I can imagine in a couple hundred years they will be worth millions.

You truly are a great "Master" John.

Peace, brother.

Canopies showed up today from Sparky!!!!!
They're great, will post some pics later.

Working on the exhaust and intake. Foam blank with balsa cap to butt up to the fuse. Scroll sawed it out close and then mounted with magnets for final shaping.
And will be glassing the bottom today if I don't get distracted by the canopy or the new revised edition of Keith's book, "Building with Foam".

Dennis, I can't wait to hear John start 'singing' his name. Should be great.

Sorry, I was compelled. Typo: signing not singing. Minor difference.

PC police huh?

OK, building has slowed. Got Keith's revised edition of his book, "Building with Foam", and have been leafing through it. I have the first edition too and already found some things that I had forgotten. I need put it on my re-read list. Anyway, it's great, I highly recommend it, and if you want to build with foam, it has a whole slew of tips, info, and techniques. Best $20 you will spend and it will save you way more than that in wasted foam costs.

The canopies. Remember, I sent Keith a plug I had made out of laminated foam, 3 layers of 3 oz glass, two add'l coats of epoxy. People, the pressure on these plugs are incredible. The power of a vacuum. So of course my plug failed. Keith suggested he make a Bondo plug in order to pull these beasts. I agreed( who's going to argue with one who knows?) and now we have a great canopy. I had him pull several for me out of 0.03" plastic, he went ahead and pulled one from 0.04" just in case I wanted a little stouter one. Haven't decided which to use yet, either will work. He also included one he pulled from the failed plug because it had my trim lines on it and I'm using it for getting the correct fit before I trim a good one.
Pics show how it helps this thing look like a F-16. Not quite done with the trimming yet but close and I can quit worrying about canopies now. If anyone decides to enlarge Hans' plans and build one, Keith has a plug for it. The price is sooooo reasonable that there is no way you should not get one. I know for sure that my vac former will not do the job and I'm just thankful we have a guy like Keith to do the grunt work.
OK, back to he belly, I have some glassing to do!

Wow, that was a fast and great transaction for this big canopy and she looks very good!!

I've just got my OK for the free times from work today for an Adventure starting in Germany on the 5th of October this year and have to fly back home on the 18th of October 2013 from Nashville.

That will work great Hans! I already have the room booked.

I should have included a link to Sparky's site in my last post. Here it is:

I put off glassing the belly, found some more places to fix. But I'll get it done tomorrow for sure.

Thanks Walt, Woody

Hersch, you won't be disappointed, it's a great book for foam builders.

Up early as usual today, got in the shop early. The belly is glassed. I went with poly/glass on bottom. I never worry about the bottom being as good as the top. Just a flaw in my character I guess.
I did give the lower intake lip two layers of 3 oz glass and then a layer of 3/4 because it's easier to fill the weave. I will glass the inside a ways back too. Still, I will expect Hans to provide a nice gentle flare on landing to protect it.
The exhaust is glassed inside and out and I will start filling weave on it now. Should be done today.

Have the whole fuse glassed and adding filler coats now. Mounted the ailerons. Intake lip is glassed inside & out and pretty stout. I think it will hold up well to Hans' landings.
It's Fri, thought I needed to throw it all together and take some pics with the new canopy.
