So I am inspired by all the mods I am seeing one here and it looks like I should invest in a soldering iron, any suggestions???

Also, not to be snarky, I am having a heck of a lot more fun learning to fly my 35.00 quad and not freaking out about hitting the ceiling, the fireplace the bookcase, the light fixture, the cat, than I was trying to learn to fly my 125.00 quad and just being worried about killing it before I even had a chance to learn how to fly it!!

This is what I used. I highly recommend it.

Adjustable heat soldering station.

Compatible with Hakko soldering tips.

I'd agree with HP on the iron. The cheap Hakko compatible irons are great for most uses. I have one that looks identical to the HK version pictured above that I got about 8 years ago and has served me VERY well. I've used it heavily for a number of electronics projects and love it. I've soldered many SMT boards with it as well as through hole stuff and with the right tip it's a joy (and hakko compatible tips can be found pretty cheap too.) I actually got mine from Circuit Specialists here in the states and they've since switched to a different design but their price is still about the same as I paid 8 years ago:

Yeah, it's about twice the HK price - but it ships from the US so it's probably cheaper and faster shipping.

I also found that my daughter loves my X1. I guess getting the bumblebee was a good call (I really only picked it because it was a few dollars cheaper than the other two on Amazon.) So I got play with mine quite a bit this evening. She loves retrieving it for me when I crash.

I was slightly off about the light on mine. With the stock TX the light does go solid once it's bound. What I was thinking of was how it binds with the 9x - goes from fast to slow once it binds - then goes solid once I turn the TX off and back on.

I was able to confirm that the stock TX stays bound if I turn the TX off and back on - but if I pull the battery from the 1X then it's no longer bound when I turn it back on unless I reset the TX as well.

What's really odd is with the 9x if I turn the TX off and then back on it stays bound - but when I turn it back on it goes instantly full throttle.

So yeah it will bind and fly with the 9x but something funky is going on there for me. Not sure what could be causing this.

I have just recieved my X1 from Banggood, arrived in a round 12 days to the UK direct from China, but I have a problem with the trim. The rear left hand rotor does not spool up as fast as the others, and even when on full throttle it veres sharply to the left. I have tried trimming it out, but can't get rid of the problem, and I just don't know where to go next with it.

Can anyone help please, I really would like to get it up in the air and flying straight and level.

Thanks Dave T

Panic over, it was just me being stupid, and not ensuring that the X1 was straight and level when turning on the TX and setting the gyros......no wonder it went diving off to the left after firing up the Tx for the maiden flight.

Flight 2 when off without mishap, and has given me an insight into what fun this little quad is going to be

Thanks Dave T

got my x1 from amazon yesterday. I've wanted a quad for a while, and an email from xheli made me see how cheap they have become.

this thing is a blast to fly and is really durable. I can't believe how stable it is! I have coax helis that are less stable!

I'm not thrilled with the battery cage and lock. oh well. what do you want for $38!

^^ thanks. I've seen people recommend this. I may have to do it when I get the 600mah tiger batteries in.

I removed the battery box, and hold my batts in place with a piece of servo tape, doubly-secured to the strut with a bit of sewing thread at each end ot the tape.

That antenna is just a coaxial dipole. If --OZ-- will give you the dimensions, they're easy to make. Just get some RG-174 coax, strip a couple of inches of the outer insulation (leave the braid intact), fold the braid back over the outside of the cable, trim each section (the folded braid and the inner conductor) to length, and slip some heat shrink over it.

The Syma X1 hovers. On high rates you can get it to move, but don't ask it to change direction unless you plan the move six months ahead of time.

If you want to do more than hover in place then you will want something other than this. Mine went back in the box after just a few flights. Wasted money.

I would love to see video proving me wrong.
yea i guess it can be slow to respond but i really quite like it
