Our first snow

We got our first snow this weekend and it was a good one.
I went to my parents house and couldn't resist taking the plane.
These were taken towards the end of the snow storm as the winds were supposed to kick up after the snow quit (and they did) I thought that flying during the snow would make things very hazy but it didn't. Just a little dark from the heavy cloud cover. Dad always wanted an aerial shot of the place with snow on. Too bad I don't have that 4mp camera yet. This is the first time I have been able get some adequately framed shots.
This is my parents place.

Here is the family farm. My uncle lives in this house. It's located across the road from Mom and Dad's.

I thought I would do some quick adjustments in photoshop elements to see what happens and I think it helps a lot.
Auto levels and a little dodge tool for the midrange.

I could really improve this with more time on the dodge tool. And it looks much better before its resized to 800x600 and squished down to be under the byte limit.

Our First Snow

Bernip,

Those are really nice pictures! I bet your dad was pleased with the snow shot of the whole place. It is nicely framed.

Was it snowing enough to have difficulty seeing the plane? What was landing like? Skis?

Nicely framed shots Bernip.

The images are quite crisp considering the lighting conditions you were shooting/flying under. You did a great job there, keep em coming.

I did have trouble seeing the plane, but not because of the snow.
The bottom of the wing blended perfectly with the sky. A couple of times I lost orientation completley and thought I was going to lose it. It wasn't snowing all that hard but the transmitter was pretty wet when I got done. My landings are still pretty much semi-controlled crashes still. It just sort of nosed over into the snow burying the motor. Ive been thinking about making some skis for it.

Bernip,

"It just sort of nosed over into the snow burying the motor." That's OK. The wheels were probably not going to help you with that much snow.

1. It cooled the motor.

2. It raised the tail for a visual locator.

3. It was on the tired side from playing in the snow!

Really nice work in the air! You will realy have a ball this coming spring and summer!!

Take Care,

Roger

I can't wait for those nice hot calm days. Even though the winds were calm for this time of the year, they were still gusting about 8 to 10 esp. above the trees. You can't buy a breeze around here in the summer time.

That was my brother-in-law and me. My Dad was in the tall brick building to the left that he spends 90 percent of his time in the winter. It's an old one-room school house that was there when he bought the land. The name of the shcool is "Puddle Town" built in the middle 1800's.
He has converted it to a workshop and with the recent addition of the big pole barn it will see duty as a dedicated wood shop.
