Hobby King Drifter Ultralight

Watching Quicksilver Ultralights in the sky as a kid was always a thrill but getting to fly one later in life was amazing, so....this New Drifter Ultralight from Hobby King had a date with my doorstep.

A simple model to assemble in under an hour with most of the time spent detailing the hardware. I flew the maiden with the recommended 2S 1000mAh battery but the model required 1 gram on weight in the nose to obtain proper CG. I'll be going to higher mAh battery shortly. A truly fun Ultralight which looks great on the ground and in the air!

Best,
Tony

Thumbs up! I love this plane too. I run on 30A ESC and 1000mah 3S 35C Zippy compact lipo. The motor held well with warm tempreature after 18 minutes of flight. Its my favorite scale FPV plane. Surprisingly most of my flying buddies bought the same plane too. Again its a cool scale plane and fun to fly.

Got out to maiden my Drifter this morning.

Great little model, can fly nice and slow so perfect for the football field near my place. Not to good in the wind when it picked up but I also think this plane may be a little tail heavy.

Need a good bit of left rudder to track straight.

Floats well and very easy to land.

Going to be a good photo platform and night flyer.

Went to together very well, but I did need to re-solder the motor wire plugs but that was easy.

8 out of 10 on this one, and I would recommended it to newbees as well.

Hey Tony et al

More flights tonight, no wind, just great cursing around, and it looks to be bang on with this pack fully forward for CG: Turnigy 1500mAh 2S 25C 88g

Is there a trick to ROG/take-off, it kept nosing over for me?

Really get a kick out of this model, flybys are really a kick.

I just held back pressure during the initial takeoff toll then slowly neutralized the stick. ROG takeoffs and landings are predictable.

Have fun

Hey Tony

By pressure do you mean up elevator, or gradual ground speed? I though maybe some up elevator to push the nose up...

Thanks

A question re lipo for the drifter

I'm considering adding the Drifter to my fleet.

Re the lipo: I have a couple of 1800mah 2S 25c with the following specs.

Weight = 104g, dimensions = 100mm x 35mm x 16mm.

Would they physically fit in the model and would their weight be OK?

Thanks,
Steve.

Hey Steve,

Will fit, lots of room up front. Weight should be ok to, bit heavy but the Drifter can handle it for sure.
