SD ONE, are those carbon or balsa spars? What are you using for linkages? And is that 1.3# or 1.9# 9mm EPP? Where did you get all the fancy control horns snd arms? Thanks, sorry for all the questions

Those are 4mm carbon strips, around 1mm thick. Linkages are 2.5 mm carbon rods with Z-bends on each end attached with heat shrink tubing and CA.

I used 1.3 lb EPP and although it worked, it is VERY flimsy and needed extra bracing in the wings along with the standard foamy carbon X bracing underneath using 1.2 mm rods. A plane built from 1.9 lb EPP should not need the extra wing bracing near the aileron hinge like mine did.

The control horns and arms used to be sold by 3DHobby Shop but they don't carry them anymore. Something similar could be cut from thin ply pretty easily.

I'm a sucker for the Sbach, and this one looks Great! I really like how you've tweaked the design around. I think this one's next on the build list, probably go with laminated DTF for stiffness and some added mass for the winter wind Thanks for the plans.

Sorry my build pics don't really show the details of the finished plane at all. I'll try to get some pics of the underside to show the bracing and linkage. Wamsy has the 32" EPP plane now so I don't have easy access to that one but I can get some shots of the finished depron version when I get home tonight.

How did you do the hinges? By solder or router?

Lol, sorry. X-mas and all that.

Yay! Thanks for the pics, Wamsy! Hah! I never realized how crooked that one aileron horn is.

See? Foam is forgiving. You don't have to be perfect, just close.

The hinges on the EPP version were cut with a soldering iron. I melted them the same way as I do round wing spars, just a little deeper into the foam. It wasn't as perfect as it could have been but it worked! I've since figured out how to do the elevator and rudder the same way but the plans will have to be completely redesigned for it to work... so I haven't bothered. It was just a neat experiment. Welders or Foam-Tac hinges will work just fine.

For the tail and all the hinges on the depron version, I use my trusty Easy Bevel 45.

Hello Guys,
I am new in this thread, so just a few words about me. When I first saw the plan
to this Shocky, I was really keen about it. And I started to rebuild it on my CAD-
Programm. Two weeks ago at the hall flight day my UMX Sbach was shot down
by a bad boy, so I had a drive set and no plane.
Then I built up this really nice Airplane with 40 cm (15,7 inch) and a weight of
about 50 gramm (1.7637 oz). Here is a link to a video.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1833672
A flight video will follow next weekend, because then I will go to the hall flight day
again. Hope you like it.

Many Greetings
pollux

Good luck! I think you are off to a good start. I like the idea of two smaller servos for the aileons and should work well. I've never used such a high KV motor before though.
