Great video, gatorb8! Funny to hear the reactions of the onlookers, especially.

Of course it's snowing here and the rest of the week will be in the low to mid 20's with high winds. So she'll be safe and warm for quite a bit longer.
Look like it'll be spring for the maiden.
love the black nose job!

some battery velcro ideas:
the 4S lipo has to be moved back quite a bit and is hanging a bit into the belly.
I ran the velcro along the starboard vertical wall of the battery channel.
Once the lipo is inserted and slid into place, I slide a piece of balsa into the port side of the channel to lock the velcro, I made the balsa lock low enough to run the wires so they don't interfear with the cockpit. To remove, remove the balsa lock and slide a paint scraper to unhook velcro, pull out

Thanks for the likes on the black nose. It's kinda in keeping with my original artwork for the NorthStar I had planned on building many many years ago. I'm really glad allot of people liked the Coast Guard color scheme and for you Scott to go with it for the Ultra.

Is that canopy large enough to fit a GoPro under?

A GoPro Hero2 is 1.6" x 2.4" x 1.2". It would be very close to fitting under the canopy without modification. If anything you could remove the pilot's headrest and position the camera further back where there's more room.

I am so envious, gatorb8--that place is like the OPPOSITE of Seattle right now. Great flying, and beautiful flying spot! Thanks for sharing the video.

Very nice!

So you flew over 10 minutes. What battery and how much did it take at recharge?

motor is microdan 2510-1300 with MAS 8x6 3 blade prop

I was a bit surprised by the numbers
That flight was a 2200 mah 4S
timer set for 8 min, timer on at throttle above 8%
recharge put 1600 mah back in
so the approximate 12 min video must have had throttle below 8% for 4 minutes
so looks like I could set the timer for 11.1 minutes minus a few minutes for a guardband

on a later flight using 2200 3S
timer set for 6 min with same conditions
recharge put 950 mah back in
so for 2200 3S I could set the timer for 13.9 minutes minus a few minutes for guardband
edit: after looking at a 3S video, I ended flight before timer went off so throw the 3S data out

I'm having motor cutoff problems when using 1800 mah 4S and not sure why
when I monitor lipo voltage it seems above 14v but motor screeches and halts, good thing is it starts up immediately, will investigate further
edit: after recharge and datalog of 1800 4S determined they have all gone bad, they were a few years old

Flew 4 packs of 2200 mah 3S off water today.
Flight timer at 7minutes >8% Throttle
4 packs took back 4153mah so average 1038 mah
7/1038=x/2200 x=14.8 minutes
Think I will bump the 2200 mah 3S timer to 10 minutes

below are some pics of Scott's suggested papertowel stuffings
I created a barrier around the servos to keep from pooling water in the servo hole
The way I fly, they will be needed sooner or later!

uploading some more video now....

I found a shoreline facing north so the sun was behind me!
Wind was under 10 mph from east.
So much shoreline, so little time!
