Just for comparison...I did a short, way to windy to fly, flight today with my data logger connected. On 4S, 750kv motors, 10x6x3 props, and an AUW ~1500g-1600g, I pulled an average 14.9A...that's <4A per motor...with a max of 32A...or ~8A per motor. Because of the wind gust my motors were adjusting a lot trying to keep the frame flying as level as possible. On calmer conditions I see a pretty steady 14.5A +/- average draw from the entire power system.

Check out my earlier post on the 9" vs 10" 3-blade comparison: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...&postcount=202

Okay guys, I am done for a day or two.
I have to mount the quadrino GPS later I am going flying today.
Need to do some large area flight test.

I mounted the 5.8 GHZ VTX and 700 line camera, That can see in the dark about 40 meters out.

I kept messing around with the extra frame pieces, It finally looks like what I was picturing it.
My setup runs a little warm, but never hot!
It has lots of power and is very close to be glass smooth!

Quadrino with the new baro cover on it. (( I LIKE IT.))

what is your takeoff weight? looks heavy with all of those standoffs? do you even need the top most plate?

1225 grams AUW.
Which may be 500 grams more than the normal.
I am waiting on some light weight standoffs to show up here in the mail box.
That will take off about 6 oz.

But this is the way I want it.
This is why!
All my buddies tha have this frame, has complained about it being brittle.
Each of them has crashed it and have never broken the arm.
But, have snapped the frames.
Last night, I was hovering at about 30 feet up.
One of the motor wires broke at the bullet and them tumbled to the ground and bounced.
It bounced highenough to endup on it's feet.
I was like damm, it is broke now!

Well, when I found it in the field it only had one broken prop!
I am running a 4S setup and most 4S anything weighs in aorund the same weight.
When I buy a frame , I always buy repair parts for it.
I bought go extra, top and bottom plates and extra arms.
My thought it to take this frame and cut out a thicker one for the top and bottom plates.
Go from 1.6mm to 2.1mm and 3.1mm.
I have also ordered a RC car bus body to be mounted on it.
Wait don't steal my idea!
I bet you may see one or two bodies come out from multicopters in the future.
Bus body and a Datsun 510 wagon body would be the only two I want.
Hehehe!

I finally completed my Flip Fpv build and had my first fpv flight ever with it today, and I am hooked!
This is my first quad build, but thanks to this thread everything went smoothly (Special thanks to Vantasstic!).
The frame feels really solid, and I was lucky to receive the upgraded landing gear even though they were first announced after i received the package . I routed the motor wires so i can fold the arms in for easy transport, without bending the wires too much.

I bought a v929 beetle micro quad for some quad practice before I had the maiden flight with the Flip. I find the Flip to be quite easy to fly LOS in MultiWii level mode, even in strong wind. Fpv maiden in wind was an adrenaline rush though, but I just could not wait to try it :P Will wait for calm weather before I try GPS hold and RTH.

My build:
Flip Fpv Camo
AIOP V2.0 ALL IN ONE PRO Flight Controller
u-Blox CN-06 GPS Receiver V2.0
HP2212-1000KV from RcTimer (these are amazing!)
20A SimonK ESC
GemFan 9" props (These give very little vibrations compared to the RcTimer carbon props).
Fat Shark 250mw 5.8Ghz vtx
GoPro Hero 2
Weight with Turnigy nano-tech 4000mah 3S 40~80C, GoPro and some leds is 1392g.

Future upgrades are:
Immerson 600mW vtx (or maybe I should go for a 1.3ghz setup?)
FrSky 2.4ghz tx/rx combo for my T9x
Simple OSD system
New fpv camera
Patch antenna

I will mostly fly at places with a few trees to block the vtx signal, and I find the video feed to break up some with the stock fat shark 250mw vtx.
The range is decent though with the SpiroNet CP antennas. Do you think i should go for the Immerson 600mw vtx and my integrated Fat Shark Predator 2 vrx, or rather switch to 1.3ghz?

Congrats on the build. I like how you did your 'folding' arms. I was trying to fold them both inwards...it works much better how did it. Good going and enjoy.

As for video, the 1.3Ghz will give you more penetration with less power than 5.8G. The antennas for 1.3Ghz are bigger though. If your 5.8G system is working fine for you then why start up a whole different freq system and have more equipment to haul around. My experience with the Fatshark 100mW 5.8G system left me pretty sour on it. I actually ended up buying a 600mW 5.8G VTx, but sold the whole FS system before I tried the more powerful VTx. I just wasn't FS satisfied...person preference. Since my FPV system is 1.3G based I decided to stick with 1.3G. I do keep thinking of trying 5.8G again for a small FPV hex, but...probably will stick with 1.3G for standardization.

Not what I wanted to hear as I just dropped $39 bucks to get 6 of the 10x5 carbons from RC timer to try on mine.

Can you provide some closeups of how you mounted your FPV camera? Did you hard mount it to the bottom plate, or did you isolate it from vibration?

Speaking of props and camera mounting and vibrations.......

I'm going to use my old Android phone with a vibration application on it to test the following props on 4S with my 775 kv Carbon Bird motors and see which ones work the best:
- GWS 9x5x3
- GWS 10x5x3
- RC Timer Carbon 10x5

The current mount looks quite ugly, but is only temporary to find a placement I'm happy with. The camera is mounted on a 90 degree plastic angle on top of an eraser I cut at a slight angle to tilt it a bit downwards. I tried to order some MoonGel vibration dampening pads from Amazon, but the shipping to Norway was ridiculous so i went for these two from hobbyking instead:

For the GoPro: http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dProduct=26457
For the fpv camera:http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dProduct=15214

They are super cheap and i get no vibrations or jello effect with them using Gemfan props. The RcTimer carbon props on the other hand gave very bad vibrations, made the picture blurry and the Flight Controller went crazy in level mode, even though I took extra care to balance them perfectly. Maybe they were not tracking true...

Question about 4S..... I am thinking I might need to step up from 3S to 4S. Other than purchasing the new battery do I need to rewire anything? I am running my FPV equipment off of a separate 3S battery.

Most motors will run higher voltage.
Some of the lower priced ESC's will crap out early if run on higher voltage.
So heck those two factor and then buy many good batts.

Im using NTM 1200kv motors and 30A Hobby King Blue Series ESC's flashed with SimonK. I dont know about buying "many" batts cause I'm noticing the price difference.
