Cool
Align G800 Aerial Gimbal System

There have been some photos floating around of the new Align aerial photography platform, but details have been sketchy until recently. The new system, called G800, consists of a 3-axis gimbal system, with electronic stabilizer control. This system is designed as a drop in fit for Align's T-Rex 800 Trekker helicopters. I thought I should start a thread to share knowledge for those who are interesting in setting one up.

From the description posted on website, the G800 stabilizer requires Align's 3GX flybarless gyro system, as well as Align's APS auto pilot system. These components allows the gimbal to have a host of operation modes, including (translated):
- manual control
- 3 axis stabilized heading hold
- 2 axis stabilized heading hold
- tilt attitude lock
- horizontal level attitude lock
- neutral hold
- rescue mode (saves camera equipment in crash)

Here are some photos I found on couple of sites (Thanks to AKflycam). I plan to build a unit once all the pieces have come in stock. Then I will do a thorough review of the system.

Looks like it's available now. They should slowly trickly into dealers soon.

I'd suspect you'd have to replace all the electronics, including servos. The gimbal controller wouldn't even boot up unless it sees APS/3GX.

I know it's another forum but there is some serious testing and feedback on the Align G800 system over here: http://www.multirotorforums.com/show...5596#post85596

The helis were great for AP photo work (I used T600 + 700s for 5 years) but I think there are some issues when chasing production-level video.

Wow that forum has so much negativity against this product, when nobody has even seen one in real life yet!

My kit has arrived and I'll be posting more photos and info as I have more time with it.

It can be mounted to a 700 by replacing the frame plates from T-Rex 800. But 600 is too different and would require some modifications.

Gimbal itself with 2 servos, controller, and two shocks is around 960g. Can't get a good reading on my postal scale due to its shape. The aluminum cage support mount is another 287g.

I am sure it can be mounted to a multicopter, but it will require some modifications.

I wonder if it could be mounted to a photoship one fmts. I have a 700. What parts would need to be replaced to make it work?

If you change the side frames, doesn't that widen the heli requiring everything else to be widened? I'm a complete noob with this stuff.
