Airbrush/Air Compressor at Hobby Lobby?

I have a Hobby Lobby really close by, and I saw an airbrush there for around $25. Since I have planes that I want to paint (and other projects to come), I was just wondering if I could get an air compressor (I think thats what its called.....) there too? Also what brand/kind paint should I use if I were to get the airbrush? Thanks

Seems like they have the air compressors there, at least from their website. Any foam safe paint should be okay to use with the airbrush, provided its properly thinned. Acrylics seem to be most widely used here. Stay away from oil based paints, which might eat the foam, and paints with propellants (spray can) which can also dissolve the foam.

Thanks, I just wanted to ask because my sister got me a Hobby Lobby gift card for me (for Christmas.......she gave me soooo many hints and I didnt even guess it until 3 hours later! ). At first I thought it was useless but I suddenly thought of getting an airbrush, which I had always wanted. I think I will try some Testors acrylic paint (also bought from Hobby Lobby) first. Another question, though, how much should I thin the paint? Thanks

Don't forget to go to the Hobby Lobby web site and get a 40% off coupon for 1 item. http://www.hobbylobby.com/weekly/wee...?page=1&menu=1

They have lots of craft type items that can be used for foamy construction. I bought a cutting mat for cheap that is working out well.

Haven't used my airbrush yet but seems I read people use window cleaner to thin Acrylic paint. I don't know why or how much but a search for Windex might find the answer

Thanks jcfetterly - Jim - I could really use that coupon! Though it expires on the 15th.....gotta use it soon. So about thinning acrylic, I've heard that water is enough but I could have gotten it confused with another type of paint to thin. Thanks, I will probably look through the painting tips thread to see what they say.

There air compressors are ridiculously over priced. Youll pay at least 90 bucks for a gallon size at the largest. U can get a 3 gallon at walmart for 80

I found a small air compressor with tank at Harbor Freight cheap, I got lucky and got a Campbell Hausfield, finding them cheap is rare, but HF has others, and for light use they should be great, and not too bad for airing up your tires too! The tank gets rid of the power pulses from the compressor.

1/3 hp with 3 gal tank $59.99

They have some air brushes pretty cheap too! On sale for $8.99

Hobby Lobby has the coupon often, maybe all the time. No need to rush. I agree about the air compressors. HL might be a good deal with 40% off or maybe not. Pays to shop around but you have a HL gift card to use. Remember you always find the best deal after you have spent your money. At least that's how it works for me

I have a compressor from Hobby Lobby that I use for air brushing. It works just fine altho expensive. So, I bought one from Harbor Freight for about $40 bucks. It has a tank and shouldn't run as much as the other one. It makes so much noise I don't use it at all. It is slow to reach the set pressure. It does do as advertised and would work for an air brush or tire inflator.

I will look around Hobby Lobby first, see what they have. Also I found a video on thinning paint and it said to use "reducer", but I have no idea what that is.

The amount I thin the paint from when I have used my airbrush is always "until it stops spitting"
