Not true!

Yours is the first laminations I've seen with that many bends.

Short memory ??? LOL http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1513666&page=2

Actually, I would like to see how Ace does it, too. There are many ways to build our models.

Yeah...

I've seen vert/hori stabs & elevators/rudders & wingtips laminations, but this is the first from the bottom stringer, rudder, and vert stand I've seen in one piece.

Cool!

Lamination 101 LOL

For my laminations I use lite ply. I personally can not get these results with reg ply. So here goes step:
1-Thoroughly soak the lite ply
2-Get form ready. I use magnets so I set them up thru the first bend. Pic #1
3-Begin placing the ply around the form. At the bend one can, for lack of a better word, knead the wood around the curve. I bend a little more than needed. It will flex back. Pics #2,3,4,5
4-Keep going and working the wood. Pic #6 is thru the next curve
5-Apply the other layers in the same fashion. I slide the magnets that are on the pressure side out to install the 2nd and 3rd layers
6-Let dry overnight to hold its shape. I only let it dry for a couple hours but I don't mind it not being set in shape.
7-Remove from mold, frame, jig, whatever and add glue between the layers and reinstallas one piece.
8-Let glue dry. I will usually give it an hour or so and go ahead and start adding the interior pieces.

I did single layers on the ele/stab because the wood strips were shorter than the perimeter and had to incorporate short pieces in.
The fin and rudder I did three layers at one time. Short perimeter and the wood was long enough.

So you're using lite ply in these applications - gotcha!

Thanks!

For perimeter purposes this is the elevator and stab complete in the form.
And the fin and rudder in the form.

Thanks, Ace. I hadn't considered the use of lite ply. I do my laminations with balsa, soaked in thin CA.

Tom I used balsa as well. Until one day I was carrying one out to the truck and hit the elevator on the door frame. Ouch!

Since you build IKON models, I figured that you were familiar with my method. I got it from building their kits.

ace much apreciate the time it takes to walk us through lami's!

I am much interested, as my next project, how ever not near the scale you are doing, but I think all curves are lamnated, it is a lazy bee! I plan on doing a tribute to the man who gave it to me years ago, and passed on before I ever got around to building it, mostly cuse the laminations made me nervous.

with that said, I do believe that it will be balsa that I will be laminating, Tom you say you soak them in thin CA? hows that?
