A123 never ever made a profit, it was a ponzie scheme from beginning to end. When the DeWalt packs hit E-bay, I knew they were done. When B and C versions were selling on the web, I knew they were done.

Could be true. I'd never even heard of the term 'Ponzie Scheme' until I moved here in 1994...

But surely A123 wasn't a Ponzie, just a company with a good idea but they couldn't sell their stuff at a price a very limited range of customers were willing to pay?

And I don't mean Uncle Ken and the other A123 devotees in electric flight

Whatever, there's probably cheap A123 and rip-off factories across China, poised to produce flat out now they are about to become 'official'.

Oh, it's not a true Pozie, and I think we are just joking around.

More like a Tontine, methinks!

Anyway, Chinese control scares my donkey.

question

Where did all the hundreds of millions go? A company that paid the mangement millions and never made a profit. Nah, it was a great company. The lesson here is that Americans are stupid now and accept this as normal. Just like the Chevy Volt, costs $70k to build and they sell it for $40k. Of course Obama gave them money to do this. LOL

Obama couldn't do it alone, not by executive order or otherwise, so he had lots of company in that one and others-a whole criminal gang, you might say, who are now refusing to drive the bus!

Sorry to disagree: if only "they" were at least pathetic.

Criminals, I'd say.

Was the world always this crooked, at all levels, everywhere ?

Or has the web just allowed us to become more aware of the constant corruption ?

We don't do metaphysics, here, we just opine, hold forth and complain!

Just the Facts

A123 was a R&D company that made some breakthroughs and created some value by securing patent's. They received funding from a number of sources including federal grant's ( read "Gift" not to be repaid). What they did not do is present a viable business plan that would be able to produce a profit. Without a profit there is no point to continue and the gifts eventually dry up.

Here's hoping that the 'keepers of our cash' will become better stewards of our hard earned tax dollars. Given the increasing toxicity of wantonly squandering countless billions on ill-conceived and clearly non-viable projects, I can't help but believe that the past madness will come to an end.

A quick Google search on 'failed energy projects' or 'failed energy companies' is very compelling and our leaders should have learned an important lesson from their past missteps. Hopefully....
