Buy an MJX-F45 ?
I have been looking at this heli for a while, and my buddy has one on the way.
I might get one just to have something to thrash that is better than the 9116.
While watching a video, I stumbled onto some info that sealed the deal.
The extra servo header on the PCB is actually an output for a brushless ESC.
HOW COOL IS THAT ????
I've read quite a bit about this heli, but only found this detail today. I suppose if
I would have searched for it directly, I would have found out right away.
Anyway, if you were sitting on the fence, this should push you over. It did me.

It needs the brushless motor, it's very overweight and underpowered. It's a rather ponderous performer with very weak movement authority. THere biggest attraction is price. As learning tools, there are much better options. But, for slow, easy cruising they are not bad.

I picked one up and loved it.. Though Balr is right, it is under powered. Forward flight is fair outside, not quick by any means out of the box. It does handle a crash well... It does not handle an 80' tree well... So sad.
If you have the cash though, shoot for one of those better options with dual rates and a 3 axis gyro.

Helis with top mounted, 45° offset flybars are the bottom of the performance ladder. And the bigger they are the lower they are. This design utilizes an out-of-phase flybar with tremendous latency to provide a high degree of stabilization and severely damp movement authority. It was designed for micro sized FP helis, which really need the stabilization. But, as you scale it up, the effects get more pronounced. It's not meant to be a hot rod or a great learning tool, just something easy to fly.

Hmm, sounds like not any more fun than a lightened 9116.
I finally got my 9116 PCB and just came in from a flight.
Man that thing is fun. My kid was driving the R/C car and we had
a race. He got me out the gate, but after the weight transferred and
I was able to give it 100% throttle, I passed him (just barely)
I have to get a camera setup... I was chasing the car around about a
foot off the ground, and it was more fun than I ever remember.

The F45 is larger than the 9116 and uses the same head design. Any design gets easier to fly as you scale upward. Larger helis are inherently more stable.
I'll bet your 9116 would not keep up with my Stampede!

old, at least. It's got a Green Machine stock motor, with ball bearings added.
The tires are Pro Line Street Hawgs and are pretty heavy, and to top
it off, I need new batteries. It's geared for torque and run time, so top end is only
around 25 Mph.
With a hot mod motor, high gearing and foam tires, I've probably had it going 50+.
The blue anodized aluminum screws are a great way to shave weight.
The shocks are from a Duratrax Evader that got cannibalized.
EDIT: My mistake, this is a Rustler, but we have a brushed Stampede as well.
If yours is a brushless, I've seen those run, they are stupid fast

If I ever buy another car, it will be this:
Nevermind, I just noticed it is $1000.00
For a grand, I could make a toaster go 100 Mph.
(not really, but you know what I mean)
I had my modded TC-3 well over 70 Mph, and only had $700 in it.
And that was with BRUSHED motors, and $400 of it was the ESC,
motor, and batteries.
This was over 10 years ago.
Imagine what $400 buys today in brushless hardware...

Yes.... Yes you have....
Get the MJX-F45. For the price range, it is a blast to fly and does last. Plus once the main motor burns up, you can swap in a brushless.. However, your tail will go out too, which can only be brushed.

EDIT: This was a defective main motor from the factory, and it fried
the PCB because I bypassed the protection (MOPPS mod).

I'm done with my 9116. Today, 2nd flight on new board, and 20
flights on motor, the main motor shorted out, and fried the MOSFET.
(it DID look pretty cool, LOL... smoke trailing from it like a nitro as
Lucky for me, it fried in a closed circuit, so it landed with blades
spinning enough to break the fall (I was 75 feet up).
I was able to rob a MOSFET from a dead PCB and got it going with
an old motor, but this is getting rediculous.
I spend far more time fixing than flying... Getting an MJX F45.
