Got some more done. Temp fitted the firewall, looks like it'll be fine. Doing some tweaking on the rear end of lower coolant scoop, I had things off a bit. Looks like rear lines up with tip of dorsal fin on top.
Lower coolant scoop roughed in so far, stab blank cut, checked CG and looks about right for what I figured.

I went through my box, and I have two brand new E RC 35 amp ESC's I forgot I got on sale a few years back. SCORE! Saved some $

Re-worked rear of lower scoop to match PM's more closely, and worked out a rear bottom hatch to access the ele and rud servo's once they are in there.

Need to hit Prop Shop Monday and grab a 3" spinner for motor alignment, and some 1/16 ply for rear bottom hatch.

Once I get the top deck started she'll really start looking like a '51. I figure as soon as I get it done, Thom will make changes lol.
I wonder, could they pick up a few MPH by getting a more efficient stab tip? Seems a slab, straight-cut tip would have a lot of drag...

Mark,

Loved the progress pix, looks like you have room on the wall behind for another MidAm or Toledo plaque.....

Yes, xf4u-4 with contra-rotating props. No faster or better climb than a standard prop, so not persued.

Thats interesting. Forward sweep probably to offset the heavy CR engine setup...

Made bottom rear hatch to get at servos, finished up carving and sanding stab-ele. Pretty soon I can draw sand the wing saddle, and get working on the fuselage top deck section. Then on the fin-rud.

Nice Mark!

You clearly have a fomuletic approach to model selection: Short on wing, Long on power. I like it!

Looking forward to flight pics and video.

Cheers,

Rick

LOL, well, Long on FUSELAGE, long on power hahahaha

This one isn't as severe a clip as the Tucker. I sometimed wonder what that things is flying on! My goal is under 66 ozs for under 25 ounce wing loading and about 175 watts/lb.

Hi Mark,

If you like the way counter-rotating propellor works out, and you decide that you are interested in expanding your counter-rotating fleet, please consider doing Miss Ashley II.
Cheers,
Rick
