Seagull Spacewalker II Conversion Ideas

Just bought the Seagulls Spacewalker II 40 size and want to convert to electric. I would like to use Kokam 1500 2 OR 3 cell in series or parallel with a brushless motor. I have a mega 20/30/3, but I don't think it will have enough to pull this plane...? Specs are

Wing Area = 627 sq. inch
Weight Glow = 6.2-6.5 lbs.

Would like your thoughts on motor, battery, prop set-ups. Thanks

Hacker B50-13S, 6.7:1 gear, 15x10, and probably need 5s4p of those 1500s. If you use ThunderPower, get the 5s3p 6000mah pack. This should provide excellent performance.

You can use the Mega 22/30/3 you already have, put a gearbox on and take a 4s4p pack .
Try to search for some combos, what gearbox, what prop, what cells.
The Mega should provide excellent power !

That Mega will give you plenty of performance. Put it in an MEC Superbox at 3:1 swinging a 15X10 APC E. You will be around 38 amps and just shy of 1:1 which is perfect for the Spacewalker as you dont need unlimited verticle for this sport flyer. If you want more verticle you can up the disk size at the cost of a few amps (and if you have the clearance). The Mega has a threshold of 70 amps, so you have plenty of room to work with.

I have a Mega running in my Funtana, SA CAP 232 40E and am in the process of converting a Kyosho Sukhoi with a MEGA 22/30/2. They are nice motors for the price.

I am thinking about the same plane and this is what I suggest:

Aveox 36/24/3, ModelAirTech 2.57:1 belt drive, APCE 14X10, 16 Cell GP3300. Castle Creation PH60 controller.

I have this set up in a Rambler 30 and it was drawing about 35-40 amp static and 10 minutes duration with throttle management.

I vote for Mega 20/30/3 (since you already have it) 3:1,I use an inline drive.........VK Ithink. APCe15x10. This gives performance within a couple of hundred RPM of the Hacker13s 6.7. I use 16 cells. one lipo = 3.5 nimh, so 4-5s and parallel enough to handle 40 amps.

I just bought this same plane for a X-mas present to myself for glow use. Mines still in the box yet.


There have been some good power recommendations here, but I think there may be a problem with most of them, specifically prop clearance. I'm not certain here since mines not built, but I think you may not be able to use bigger than about a 11" prop without LG mods.

If true, that will limit what you can do for power.

Sorry I can't contribute here. I'm actually going glow - oh no!

My son (15 now) made me do it!

Dean - I also bought it for myself for glow use. We think alike!

Dean I am surprised by your thoughts on prop size restriction. I have a GP 1/4 scale (79") Spacewalker. It EASILY accomodates sn 18x12 prop.

David: I'm going by the pic on the cover of my box. ( same kit).

It just does'nt have the look of excess clearance, the landing gear seems pretty squat and not a huge clearance to the bottom of the fuse either.

I defniately could be wrong, but measuring needs to be done before anythings purchased.

Obviously, the large prop he can fit on there, the better his potential performance will be.

I had the same concerns with the Sukhoi Conversion I am doing. I simply could not clear a 17" prop, so I adjusted the ratio a bit and moved by e-mount up 1/4 of an inch. This gave me the clearance for a 16" even though I am only swinging a 15"

As in the photo by Austinflier the fuselage is very deep but the bottom curves up at the front to deceive the eye. the photo I assume is a 10" glow prop and doesn't extend below the fuse. I'll try and take a photo on the weekend

Looking at my box cover, I think the yellow prop in the photo is much smaller, maybe only 6 or 7".

Hard to believe they would show a prop smaller than 10" for a 46glow.
here is mine with 18x12
