Need help with a Cessna 177 Cardinal M36

I can post pictures as needed but here's the story: My uncle was given this plane from a friend who had crashed it. My uncle never saw himself repairing it so he gave it to my grandfather(who is a model plane enthusiast) who ended up giving it to me. I put hinges in the back rudders, and as far as I'm concerned repaired it to the best of my ability. I have never repaired something so big(or of flying ability) and am wondering if there is way to get better movement from the rudders, a better motor, and if it is possible to purchase the wooden piece that holds the motor. Also I tried taxing it, it seemed to work fine, the only problem is that the rubber bands on the wings don't appear very strong(Wind would stretch them out, the wings would lift up) and it did crash into the grass, the plastic piece that holds the front wheel broke(any way to make/buy a new piece?) I work out of one of the most advanced high school woodshops in the state of Michigan and can only put in at most 10 hours of work into it a week, if that helps. Any and all advice/help is much appreciated!
