I have th UM Stryker, nice little plane. Been always tempted by the big Stryker but always seems loud. Wanted something bigger and more of a floater.

The Stryker can do wonderfull FPV flights for its size and can float for a while given you have some altitude. Check this, flown with only a 2200 3S lipo AND carrying a GoPro:

I have a FPV micro Stryker. And I had a Skyfun jet which is like a Stryker. The micro flies just fine. The Skyfun is also a floater, but it is notoriously difficult to launch. And I could not LOS it. In fact I lost it when it got ahead of me and flew away never to be seen again. I find the small wings much easier to launch, due to the big wingspan. Also tougher, being EPP foam.

Big planes are more fun than small planes if you got room to fly them

every plane is a compromise. But as gliders go, bigger is better, imho.

OTOH, I really prefer my small Skysurfer over my much larger Penguin, which are kind of similar designed planes (well the airfoils are not similar).

Well, already cut out the foam, i could only get 1" thick foam here so one of the sheets i halved with nichrome wire, top buildup is 1/2' thick, bottom is 1" thick.

Going to embed CF rods in the bottom thicker section just in case, they'll be sandwiched in with the top piece.

i'll embed the CF rods and glue these pieces together and finish her off tomorrow, already have a spare motor that should work great with this too.

I haven't decided what i'm going to use for the flaps, but i'll likely use coroplast since i can easily hinge it

It's a 50% KF step with the upper layer glued on with gorilla glue brown. Nothing special. The pic with the solid nose is just before maiden so no P&T cam there.

It also has a twin skids to cover up a repair from the last time I blowed it up right good. So it looks a little more like a manta ray now. I'll get a new pic if you're interested. It maidened with an orange 2212 1040kv with a 10x4.5 prop. It flew on less than half of the 150 watts available. It wasn't spectacular in climb but it was tolerable for loafing about and doing the odd loop. It's a pretty big bird to roll easily but it rides like a dream since it's only 1" thick compared to a zeph or hercules which I believe is more like 2+ inches. You don't even notice winds and that got me into trouble at almost 2,000' altitude.

I found very large cliff to launch plane from the other day

Problem is landing is fist size rocks

So I think I try covering large wing partially in Kevlar to land on rocks

Very rough landing site so I make plane as light as possible

I recently fly very fast f5b glider around whistler bc at large glacier
That was really cool but long drive

Will try to make short video for Canadian guys

some of us (like you BC) are constrained due to proximity due to flight paths, airports etc, but hey if you're out in the middle of nowhere like me? who cares have fun i have yet to break 3000 feet but i'm close!

exactly. Too easy to make assumptions about these things, jumping down on some nice guy like Vintability irks me. There are threads to argue about that stuff - and those arguments always get uncomfortably heated and antagonistic. NO need for every thread to be like that,

well the core of the wing is done and the glue is setting, CF tubes already embedded, thanks again vintabilly for a great idea! i've been taking pictures along the way and once i have the complete build done i'll post it on my blog with all the pics... hopefully i don't crash it on the maiden!

Maybe you should practice what you preach and maybe you should find another
thread to discuss your flight lessons in a Cessna.
Maybe others should go find the proper thread to discuss replicator printers.
I am just being a nice guy by giving a friendly reminder of the rules of flying FPVs
