Weston Hype 3D

Does anyone know the actual wing area for this plane? They don't list it on the website and RCUniverse has it at 1,520 sq in and I doubt that.

Thanks,
Dave

Thanks.

You give the weight as 5 -6.5 lbs. Is the the electric setup or slimer setup? The reason I ask is that I have seen other adds, on line and in Fly RC mag where they give the weight as less than 5 lbs.

Thanks,
Dave

weight

I do not think so, the plane which has empty weight 61oz. can end up under 5 lbs.
The best thing, just add everything up. radio, battery, motor

Adding I can handle. However, you must have accurate numbers for an accurate answer. How did you get the 61 oz for the empty kit? (and, please, do not think I am being nasty here. I'm just trying to make sure). Sometime in 2004 I will by a large 3D gase plane for e-conversion. It will be either the Hype, the U-can-Do 46 or the Flip 3D. I to go with the lowest wing loading.

FLy RC Mag, Feb 2004 issue, Pg 40.

Have you already or can you weigh the actual kit? It would be of tremndous help.

Thanks,
Dave

David,

Your info helps a lot but I can't find anything on a Mega 45/3. Is that the Jeti 45/3?

Thanks,
Dave

Try Mega 22/45/3 or 22/45/3e
It's the same size as Jeti 45/3, but better and capable of 32 cells (geared).

I prefer Hackers. I'm just trying to figure out the actual weight. I prefer a plane that does not land like a flying brick!

Hm....
I would try a B50-10L 6.7 and 16 cells or lipo.

Sorry - forgot the 22/ bit !
The Hype at this weight DOES NOT land like a brick !
in no wind, it's a brisk walking pace; bit of a breeze, almost vertical. Totally docile.
just measured; ave chord is 18", span 81"
Can out fly me comfortably.
Still learning 3D, but getting their !

The numbers I used are my own.
I just took the plane from the box and put it on the scale.
Empty weight 61 oz. is correct.

It's taken all summer, but I think I've finally worked all the bugs out of my Hype 3D conversion, and today for the first time I was able to fly it without a seperate receiver battery pack. I haven't weighed it fully assembled but I tkink I'm closer to 7 pounds. I started with a Hacker B50-11XL at 5.2:1, but the gearbox huffed twice in six flights and the last time it was replaced with a beefier 6.7:1 gearbox. So my current setup is as follows;

Hacker B50-11XL at 6.7:1
22x10 prop (soon to be 22x12)
6s4p, 8200 mah Thunder Power lipoly

I had to extend the landing gear to run the 22 inch prop with the 6.7:1 gearbox...
