GW Extra 330 (sorta looks like on anyway) Foam Fly

No cool name yet,but here is some info

I finally got around to doing the CAD drawings and cutting the parts. Just thought i would share my progress.

X braced fuse is similar to the Shockflyer fuse.

All taped together, no glue yet.

This is the 32" version, A friend is building the 38" version.

I am going to install the Axi 2212/34 in the 32". Looks like it will build around 9-10 ozs with the Axi. Maybe 1/2 oz less with Depron which I will try if the design works.

Photos below

More to come later.

Thanks Steven

They are large, should snap and roll great. Might fly like a horse's end too.

The center section is one piece with a slot in the fuse. The center section slips in with no problem. The stab is attached to the center spar(actually never removed in cutting) From the nose to the TE of the stab is one piece. Light and very stiff!!

Thanks BarnyardFlyer

The shockflyers have some great ideas. I think the cross sections is one of them. I took the general idea and just added it to a 330 fuse I had drawn. They also have some cool control hookups on their webpage. I used the ideas on the SX2 and they worked great. No more wire pushrods for me.

Once I have the plane bugs worked out, Im going to send the files( 32" and 38") to Mark Roberts , he is going to cut me one of each from Depron with his CNC machine. That will be too cool and much more accurate than me and the #11 blades.

I hope to get flights on it by the weekend and get reports on the 38" one as well.

how did you piece this together?
it looks like the vertical fuse is one piece, the horizontal sections are two pieces? and is the wing one piece slotted through the fuse?
it's interesting how quickly these new methods develop with so many people working 'together' on the net.

looks nice!

Its a one piece wing. center crosssection is one piece with the stab attached. Very, very stiff. I am finishing it now. The weight with the Axi2212 and Etec1200's is 10.7 ozs. Not to shabby. Could drop that to 9.3 or less with a lighter receiver,Depron constuction, and Kokam 3s1p 340 pack. I will fly it as is though and let you know how it flies.

size: 32"x32" 275 square inch wing.

looks sweet GW , i think the next one i try i'll stick with the horiz fuse piece above the wing like yours and the
shockies as it's bound to help with the torsional strength. Have you finished it yet? if so how does it fly?, and post
some pics . will you or your buddy be posting details of the build/flight of the larger version?

Mark, I tell you what, since you have the foam cutter and the business, you sell it as an ARF. How about that !!

I will send the files to you Mark , and you take it and go with the sales. I will just do the flight test and design

OK guys, let Mark know you want them, he is an enterprising guy and will surely fill your needs.

Harry,

I have it assembled, and now my CC25ESC has gone bad. I have a CC10 on order and should receive it by Thursday. So no flight reports till then. I can tell you this. The Axi 2212/34 on Etec 1200's was awesome power for the 11 oz plane. I only got to play with it in the shop for a few minutes, till the ESC crapped out.
But the baby Axi would hover the airframe at 1/2 throttle. and the sound the axi makes is way cool. I did several full throttles holding the plane in my hand, It felt very, very strong! Im sure it will take off like a missle when the throttle is punched in flight.

Im almost sure my flying buddy will either report here or to me and I will pass on the info on the 36" version. I will send the files to Mark for it as well if someones want him to cut one for them.

He does have some great ideas for depron planes and kits, so give him a PM ad let him know your interest. I am hinting to him that we all want a place to buy everyting needed for an airframe at a one stop shop, instead of ordering the parts from 3 vendors.
