Jim,
Question: In the rules, is the term "launch corridor" as used in #20 defined as the area between the winches and the LZs?

The launch corridor is the area between the front launch line and the rear launch line that you must launch from. It does NOT include the area between the front launch corridor line and the winches...

Jim,
What is the penalty for overflights? Don't see it in the rules. Thanks.

I do not document ALL the J rules - just the ones we modify or interpret..

Overflights cost you 30 points PLUS the loss of any landing points.

I attached the current J rules for those that need to bone up on them...

Ah, thanks. I remembered the 30 points, but thought it was half the landing.

I'm writing a two-part article for our club newsletter. The first part is pre-contest and I wanted to show how J differs from US TD...landing late is one of those big differences. So, just making sure the story is right.

If it helps - here is a website clinic I wrote that has some good info. Others on this thread may be interested too...

http://www.rmsadenver.com/f3jclinic.htm

Note that some of the rules have changed slightly since this was written. I will try to find time to update it, but the safety rules are different (see the f3xevents.com rules clarifications). The 3 meter high rule is no longer in effect. You now have unlimited restarts, not just 1.

I guess I need to update this for F3J with winches too...
Enjoy - Jim

One more question...does (should) the timer stop the flight time watch when working time ends?

Enjoy!

Yes. The CD will also determine if the pilot has landed more than 1 minute after the buzzer in which case they get a ZERO score...

F3J in the Desert 2013 - Live Video Stream?

Hey there, I'm trying to see if there is any interest in bringing this event live via webcasting. With today's speedy mobile broadband and free livestream hosting, it would be a shame not to see what can be done to bring fellow enthusiasts together.

Jim has worked out a deal to bring Verizon 4G connection to the field. I have the basic equipment to get the feed going.

* We'll shoot for 720HD quality, but it will depend entirely on the connection speed and quality at the field.

* www.livestream.com offers free HD hosting and I'm leaning on using them. Youtube also offers live streaming through their Google+ Hangout app but I haven't used that service as much and not sure what the quality would be like.

There are a few ways to do this based on bandwidth availability and I will describe it as we go along. The higher the quality the more it will cost.

Would people be willing to donate a few bucks each to help bring this about?
During the superbowl I will do a test streaming of a clock here so I would like people to test the connection and quality for me.

Go to livestream.com and signup for an account. yyou'll need an account to watch eventually. Look for user rcsoaringlive or search F3J in the Desert and click on the event icon. Let's shoot for a 3pm pacific time to start.
More to come...

Let's hear it! Thanks.
Tuan
