In an effort to introduce new combat flyers to thrill of RC Combat, the Radio Control Combat Association created a new all SPAD Combat class featuring the SPAD GNAT

Cheap and easy to build, durable and flies great....Perfect for beginners and club combat.

They build very quickly for little money and are more durable than most SPADS. I built mine in the pic below in under two hours.

You don't need building skills and could have a club build party to complete a fleet of planes.

The basic rules are simple:
1. Looks like a GNAT
2. SSC motor and prop (.15 size with MA 8x3 prop) or electric equiv.
3. NO STICKY STUFF!!!
4. NO weight restriction!

They turn tight enough to cut their own streamer!

these gnats are very cool and they are the easiest spads to build, once you get the hang of it, the build time will be alot less.

for all of you guys that think that all we do in combat is crash planes, No, thats not our desire and motive, sure, we do have the occasional mid-air but that is NOT our goal.
there is a thrill whenever you go on the hunt and get your targets streamer. I heve been flying combat for 6 years and I still get the same addrenalin rush during an event and the same level excitment when I do get a cut.

this plane is the perfect plane to try combat with, its cheap to build, fun to fly and easy to repair, come on!! give it a try!

I'm thinking this for the HOR is going to be my first spad.

I have not looked into combat flying but I think I might give it a shot sometime

So basically you just cut the 5 slots back a little further to make a "full" airfoil correct?

If so what did you use for a spar? Also do you have a set of English plans?

At the US Nat's, they were playing with the Gnats. They changed the wing so it was removeable without taking off the motor mount or tail. I think they wrapped the leading edge over the top or something simple like that.

All the electronics are in the wing.
For spar I used a piece of wood or plywood(+-20mmx4mm)
Sorry I drew the plan only "metric"

The wing is stuck at the last moment.
Centering (balance) is obtained by advancing or retreating the wing(sliding) on the fuselage before gluing.
I hope my "English" is understandable enough.

Well I got most of the stuff to start my gnat.

Just got to get the main wing and engine.

Here is my newest Gnat using a simpler wing attatchment method.

Sorry your first Gnat didn't work out NU. Don't give up on it! Mine didn't fly so great, it just kind of mushed along without the agility I've seen in all the videos. These new threads have inspired me to give it another shot, though. I stripped mine, but I still have it, so I'll load it up and give it another shot. I think I just never got the CG dialed in properly on mine and gave up on it prematurely.....

If it is too mushy, you can get a pair of tinsnips to the field and trim the wing down a bit here and there. If you go too far, it isn't a big deal to make another wing.
