At some point DS-9 will be on my present wish list. I've recently seen ads for it on DVD. It is by far the most honest Trek series regarding human/humanoid (???) nature. None of this "we've evolved" non-sense.
I don't know about any one else, but if I'm being shot at, I'm shooting back. None of this "let's work things out diplomatically" nonsense.

We now return to the topic at hand....

I watched it last night after I through my back out
and coudn't sleep. So I watched both epesodes back to back.

Warning spoilers in this post.

Here is what is cool.

1. Good cgi.
2. Baltar plays a messed up character well. I loved when the dude he just picked out to be a Cylon turned out to actually be one.
3. Liked both the Mark 2 and mark 7 vipers looks.
4. Cylon ships.
5. Brought the human element out much better than the original.
Who here didn't have a tear when the little girl is on the botannical ship as the cylons are about to blow them to atoms.
6. #6 in the red dress (drool).
7. The new "president" I think that they handled it in a clever way.
8. The thrusters on the ships.
9. The detail when a ship was blown up was nice. I really liked the body's flying through space.

Here is what is questionable.
1. In the original series there were only 12 battlestars and the Galactica wasn't the broken down scrap heap one. In this one they talk about more than 30 being destroyed.
2. Starbuck as a woman.
3. Boomer being a cylon, come on.
4. The sex aspect was a little overdone in my opinion.
5. The new president's cancer. Could have done without it myself.
6. Colonel Tie's alcoholism. If Adama was the great military commander he is made up to be he would have canned that guy long ago.

Here is what should have ended on the cutting room floor.
1. SOUNDTRACK. Especially when the dialog (important in my opinion) was drowned out by it because it was too loud. I found myself rewinding to get the gist of things. This is inexcusable.
2. Ships that are flying along at high speed doing what amounted to small loops around enemy ships. Can you say squashed like jelly. You can argue antigrav. Well then why are they pushed back in the seat on launch.
3. The battle scenes were sketchy. I was hoping for great epic battles. What I got was lots of lead in and out but not much substance.
4. The formations shown when entering into battle would make the ships sitting ducks.
5. The lasers/bullets whatever. Are these advanced ships or was that tracer fire from an M60.
6. SOUNDTRACK.
7. I would think that any advanced race would have a better morgue than a hanger floor.
8. SOUNDTRACK.
9. Video work where the would spin around 2 people having a conversation. Like the "poker" scene at the beginning. Iritating and detracting. Once would be ok but they did it all through the shows.
10. The CHIEF mechanic. Is he a viper tech, ship tech, control room tech or whiny wimp. Actually hes all 4. This wore thin.
11. SOUNDTRACK
12. If they were going to use Adama's old viper for the ceremony why would they send it to cover the transport. Park that old piece and get a new ship out there. I know this would ruin the old ship being imune to the cylons transmissions stuff but seriously.
13. SOUNDTRACK

Well enough for now.

Overall I give it 2 out of 5 stars or 1 thumb up or whatever.
Better than CSI miami but could have been so much better.

A) PDA's are a part of human existance. I think it would be odd Not to have adult situations in a movie about adults.

B) Women are fighter pilots now. They are also capable being friends with men. Some are even tough. My Business partner even smokes cigars.

C) Anti gravity was presupposed. Like on Star Trek & Star Wars, sharp, high G mvmts took a milisecond to compensate for.

D) I liked the music (I assume this is the "Soundtrack" you commented on) Worked well for me.

E) They explaned that the Galactica was the last of the original twelve Battlestars. The newer ones (and the newer Vipers) were easy pickens because of the acceptancve of networked computers in them.

F) Didn't understand the Cancer thing either.

G) I knew several Alcoholic officers (and more enlisted) when I was in the Military. Under some exceptional commanders.

H) There is no "Morgue" on a current navy vessel. Wasted space. I took the shrouded bodys to be awaiting burial honors, just like all the Flag draped coffins in the aircraft hangers during Vietnam etc...

And URS (Who seems to only speak in the third person), they did it because, surprise, yours is not the only viewpoint on Earth.

Hubba, Hubba! Hmmmm... not bad for a female lizard. May need to start another thread entitled "Who's the hottest Sci-Fi Babe?"

I'll vote for Sigourney!!! Lt Ripley!

As for the acting, I thought the new crew did a better job than the orignal cast....( I know a few female fighter/transport pilots that are a lot like the new Starbuck)..... I have different likes and dislikes about the orignial BSG AND the new BSG. IMHO it was a lot better than most of the stuff on the other networks and a lot better than some of the stuff in theatres now.

No way. Claudia Black rules! Humina, humina!

I liked it, mostly. I thought the audio was muddy; hard to understand the dialog in several scenes. This is a technical issue, not an artistic one.

Not much battleing in Battlestar

I pretty much agree with Megatron. While I liked the darker tones, more complicated characters, and more realistic battle scenes I didn't quite find it as entertaining as the somewhat cheezy, simplified original. It was if they had used 4 hours to film 2 hours worth of material. 4 hours, and we didn't see Adama's other son's death, the destruction of the Colonial fleet, or even really the destruction on the slower than light refugee fleet. These were high drama moments, what happened. Not even a single Cylon robot blasted.

I'm also not so enthralled with the characters. I think Col. Teigh and Starbuck's were massacred. The female Starbuck was just wrong. I usually like plot twists, but what they did to Boomer (one of the few changes I liked), I did not like.

I would have preferred they had done a prequal (i.e. the first Cylon war) or a sequel; both with new characters.

However, it has been reported that the ratings were extreemely good for Sci-Fi. The numbers beating networks like UPN and ranking as their #3 miniseries after Dune and Taken.
