Hi Dweenie,
Nope. Not installed yet. Still in the exploratory mode.
I'll have to remove a small portion from both the "angled side plates"
to accommodate the slightly wider girth of the S16D.

These S16D slot car motors are rated at 12 Volts & we supplied more at race time.
Running them on 8 Volts & with not much load, will wait 'n see but they should be a heap better & more reliable + they're serviceable.
That....is what I'm after.

In a previous post, I mentioned that the applied voltage (E) & current (I) readings of the stock & the S16D were very similar.
After running the brushes in, I expect the S16D to be better.

L..

Thing is though Steve....How much solder & insulation tape/heat shrink did you use?
Might have negated the whole exercise.

The S 16D's will cost you $ 13.99.
Extra brushes & springs are $1.49 per 2 pack.
Plus postage.

but the real question is wander what the flight record will be for those motors vs the steep 33 one time fee for the brushless setup
have you tried to even power up the s16d motor on the 9116's voltage to see if the rpms are going to be right

Dweenie,
If I had access to a tacho, then I'd do that check but seeing as I ain't......?
No way to test until it's installed.
But...I ran both motors at varying voltages & the stock motor was very happy at 12 Volts.

The current draw was the same with both.

The RPM's sounded similar but......(see the above.)

its just that im not very smart with dc voltage but if you under volt a brushed ac motor it causes it to heat up and shut down and wear out quicker

.....^^....."Eggszactly".

I encountered a slight glitch.

One of the old 16D's that I picked up has an 8 tooth pinion, which I duly removed.
I tried it on the new S16D & oh horrors....it slid onto the shaft. (Well, it was a solder on type, after all. Strange but true.)
Naturally, you cannot solder to these shafts so what to do next?

I had another cuppa while fruitlessly searching on eBay & then it hit me......Why not try the original stock motor 8 tooth pinion?
I've got 3 new ones in my spares box.

After careful removal with my trusty old, home made gear puller, I approached the S 16D.
Yippee! It's a press fit.
Anyone got a small hammer? Just kidding.

I'm all set in the motor/pinion dept.

All I need now, is to dismantle the relevant sections & insert the new frame plate plus motor.
