Yesterday I received a modded 9116 from a member on these boards getting out of the sport. It came with a 180 motor, DD tail, etc. already installed.

I bought it for simply a donor bird. Last night I decided to give a whirl. I was a bit surprised that:

1) the tail couldn't keep up on the ground. Even with full rudder compensation, and rudder stick at neutral, it would spin.
2) it didn't climb any faster or seem to have any more power what-so-ever.

Maybe the power was negatively affected by the 1300 mAh battery weight installed at the time. I will re-try testing with a 900.

I shall try the 900.

The people who try to save some money are using the HBCP V3 DD unit, which runs 3S. Now I don't know how this will effect the 9116, but I do know it made a hell of a difference in past tail drive swaps I performed.
ahhhh... interesting. Never heard that before. I'll research the packaging. Could be S.O.L there. I don't really want to invest another dime into this bird.

thanks

Mine is still stock & it also has a slight tail wag.
I changed the PCB & it still does it. About an inch to the tails right & then re-centres.
I don't think it's the tail motor. Haven't done enough "flights" yet.
Not sure if it's consistent yet, coz I haven't quite got the hover in one place, down pat
& the Weather Gods haven't been playing nice lately.

In case my offer was missed...
Anyone want to try a ball bearing 180 for nix, when they arrive?

With the gyros on our larger helicopters be it a dfc 3axis or just a tail gyro on the heli vibration has a lot to do with holding and performance. Vibration can be a major cause of tail wag for us. also cold with some of the older gyros.

That would be super freaking awesome, Count me in.
The offer was for a free motor. eg; no cash outlay is needed or expected.
Thank you for your offer.
As I mentioned, I have the $$$ & the time to experiment in upgrading these crappy stock motors to one that is more reliable & "serviceable".
These BB 180's look to fit the bill quite adequately requiring no major structural changes....
unlike, the S 16D's.
Will see exactly how much structural change "they" require to fit when they arrive.
(Geez the China "junk" post is slow.)

All I need now is your address.

Ta muchly.

Hi Skyeblu,
You may have hit the proverbial nail on the head...
Mine is exhibiting "more than normal" vibrations.
After a quick examination, I found that the top ball bearing "housing", (the piece with the anti-rotation bar), has a lot of play in it, allowing the main shaft to move around way too much.
It's not the bearing that's worn, just the plastic housing it.
I intend to replace "that" housing when I get to changing the motor.

Aphex, are you making and selling these? Looks great. Happy to buy 1 or 2 if I don't have to mod them to fit the rest of the bird on them.
