Another newbie.

Hi guys 'n' gals,

(Mike requested I post any Q?s in here.)

I just purchased a 9116, (not received as yet), but hopefully not long now.

I do have a few "spares" coming too.

I saw the many mods that are on offer, as well as the links to the "Bible" etc etc.

Anyway, my Q?s is really about the tail motor assy. & is it necessary for any mod to it?
Longer bracket to get it slightly higher & more out-of-the-prop wash?
Or, is it just a matter of cycling the new Li-Po batteries & running the motors in?
( ie; Bedding in the brushes.)
As well as the total O/H, mods & inspection of the innards & workings of the Heli.
&, someone mentioned shortening the balance bar a tad.
By how much & how about lightening the weights?

I have a few more enquiries to make but these will do for now.

Many thanks for a great forum.

Regards, L..

Seasons Greetings to all.

ps. A little tip that I picked up during the years.
Instead of using "Locktite" on those pesky little screws, try clear nail polish.
Works very well & it's cheap.

When I did my 9104 conversion to what's basically a 9117 I got some metal geared 12g servos from Head'sUpRC that were like 8 bucks a pop, and work a treat! They have nice, long servo arms too, have 3 to choose from, I used the shortest of the 3, and they're still pretty long...more so than stock.

They can't be much worse quality than stock, and they cost half as much.
hmm can't say anything about them.
I use these

for direct fit replacement - even cheaper than your find. (and offer some servo horns for spares, too )
To admit it - of 9 DH9116 I'm maintaining for half a year now there was only one servo to change yet.
But I've set the EPAs right and NEVER ever tried to adjust the pushrods without turning the bird off.

They should work, but I don't ever deal with any Ebay vendors with a rating that's not at least 99%. Also, Enjoyhobbies.biz has CYS 3.79g micro servos for $5.00 apiece and free shipping. I've bought a ton of stuff from them including CYS servos and have never had a problem.

Metal geared servos would be nice but there's a weight penalty which would be counter-productive for out helis. Also, I've never stripped the plastic gears in the stock servos although I just had the electronics go in one.

I don't know about switching positions with the pcb though: I like the accessibility of the plug-ins. It will still be a worthwhile mod to a degree.

Before my final mods I honestly think it was capable of doing a backflip, but I didn't have the b--ls to try it. I had too much time into the mods and was afraid to fly it vertically into the ground. After moving the battery forward 3/4" from the stock location I couldn't get the nose up almost vertical anymore by yanking back on the cyclic while in ff. So you have the right idea. Moving the battery forward was a mistake.

215 grams with a battery and stock canopy? That's light! I weighed mine with my home-made light canopy.
Just spent half of the day making a new battery tray. I went from one extreme to the other. Originally moved it 3/4" further ahead than stock, now it's 7/16" behind the stock location and about 1/4" higher. Good day to work on it anyway: we're having a snowstorm here in NE PA with sustained winds of over 30mph. So no outside flying today.

I had one pleasant surprise from this mod. I was hovering inside and it is much more controllable now. The weight is still biased toward the front, mostly due, I imagine, to the lightened tail end.

Thanks Steve.

Those ball joints are the bees knees.
I have a few floating around somewhere & it's 1 of the first mods I'm doing to correct the
servo/case geometry error.

I don't care, it looks cool and makes it seem less toy-like

Time will tell if the balls stay threaded into the servo horns. It's a tight fit, and I have
had good luck doing this in the past. I'll have to use slightly heavier ones if
I want the added security of a backing nut and Loctite.
Why would the links change make a change in mixing aren't you creating a stouter connection and that's all

That looks so much better, Steve.

1 thing re; the tail boom assy...how hard is it to replace with your re-positioned PCB?
