I did to drill the top shaft cuz I read that you did in a post way back, but I got it straight ;-) and for the next part that breaks I will try to make that one to more durable. I've done a few upgrades as removing the tail "support", lighten the bottom plastic with drill holes, removing on/off switch, mounted homemade heat sink, moving battery back. Mounted a fan on the charger, made a battery chargebox, and so on... ;-) Next I will do the DD tail upgrade and ball bearing supported mixing arms :-) But wich tail upgrade is the best? Syma or Esky? And were do I get the custom mixing arms? Tuning is half the fun in RC!

/Nicke Ps. glad to find this forum cuz here in Sweden folks don't talk and discuss stuff that's not top notch... If you ask about tuning a cheap Heli you just the answer "Get a real one!" or "Why bother?" if you even get a answer.. :-P |

Test flight
Flew the 9116 this afternoon with the 1.5 to 1 mixing arms and I like the improvement. As Steve said, the pendulum effect is gone and ff banked turns are much better. It does still climb when heading into the breeze and it takes more forward cyclic to keep it down but that's to be expected I guess.
An unexpected bonus was the fact that I could use lighter balance bar weights thereby reducing rotational mass and have it respond like it did with heavier weights and the stock mixing arm. The body does still dip forward or rearward with cyclic input. Steve had mentioned that his didn't seem to dip as much anymore, but I noticed in his post #1648 that his battery is mounted lower than mine, which would account for the difference. I was originally concerned that with the mod I would lose blade pitch movement, but that turned out not to be the case as they still contact their stops. All in all I'd say this is a worthwhile upgrade. |
