What about a canopy?

Anyway, this is PCB number 4 in two months. Enough is enough

As far as the mod goes, the pictures pretty much say it all.
Now, the PCB is floating on 2 layers of servo tape, completely
isolated from the frame. You have to trim the motor shaft,
and run new wires to the main motor, but everything else
fits and plugs in just fine.

The nice clean lines on the motor leads are because I used
solid core wire. It has less resistance than the stock wiring,
which is a very good thing. I ran the leads right to the PCB
and removed the stock plug, also lowering resistance, and
removing the weight gained from the better wire

An added bonus is that the solid core wire also helps hold the
PCB down on the servo tape, and will absorb energy by bending
in a crash.

And last but not least, the higher center of gravity should make it
more responsive. This is where the battery mounts in my 250 clone.

I fly my 9116 very hard, so another crash is just a matter of time.
Then we will know the true value of this mod.

You've got me thinking about modding my second 9116 like yours. I was just wondering if the stock canopy will fit. In looking mine over it seems like there isn't enough clearance.

Throttle curve / TRI question

So my friend gave me a 9100 I converted 9100 to 9116 and bought 3 Tx total 2 for v911s. I had 6 900mah lipos from a mini truggy already.
Can anyone please explain the throttle curve / Tri . At least what I does on this transmitter I did a search questions asked without clear in depth responses. So far much easier to control v911s inside with the adjustable D/R s in each switch setting best $7 in RC bucks ea. I spent ever.

What is left?

Hey Steve!

After putting so much time in your 9116, after so many mods, what will be left of the original DH 9116 as a (over)stabilised, easy to fly beginner's heli? *gg*

Back to serious: Kudos to your dedication but you really have too much time

Pretty close

No strikes at all so far. My flybar is bent to slightly reduce it's action, and also
slightly reduce the overall diameter.

By the way, I finally weighed it.

Without the canopy and with broken landing gear, just like in the picture.

Without battery: 154 Grams
With a 850mAh: 202 Grams

How much did you get yours down to Pa flyer?
Mine is 164 gms with the canopy and w/o the battery, 213 gms with the canopy and a 900 mah battery. With 17 grain flybar weights and 120% epa's I'm not getting any canopy or boom strikes no matter how aggressively I fly it. You'll find that the lighter you go on the flybar weights, the more stability you're going to lose in exchange for speed and agility. To my way of thinking it's a good trade-off. That means no more hands off hovering. It will require constant stick input like a 6 channel.

Gee, thanks a lot!

Up to now I was very happy with my modded 9116. No more, thanks to you! Now I'm going to have to raise that battery and bring it back closer to the C.O.G. It'll bug me until I do it. I don't know about switching positions with the pcb though: I like the accessibility of the plug-ins. It will still be a worthwhile mod to a degree.

Before my final mods I honestly think it was capable of doing a backflip, but I didn't have the b--ls to try it. I had too much time into the mods and was afraid to fly it vertically into the ground. After moving the battery forward 3/4" from the stock location I couldn't get the nose up almost vertical anymore by yanking back on the cyclic while in ff. So you have the right idea. Moving the battery forward was a mistake.

215 grams with a battery and stock canopy? That's light! I weighed mine with my home-made light canopy.

It really does never end with these things.

Just lost a servo, and no spare.

Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket?

Mine has a broken output shaft, after the linkage bound up
on the canopy mounts I "rigged" up. Wasn't even flying
and I broke it. I knew I should have waited for the mounts
