Just letting you know that I have ordered a V912 board for the 9116 as I have confirmation that the Turnigy 9x can be used on the V912. The V912 board is virtually identical to the 9116 and there are some differences but I believe that this can all be corrected. It may be 3-4 weeks before I get the board but I'm excited about the very good possibility of using my 9x on this heli.

My DH 9116 was the first 4 ch heli that I bought and even though I have moved onto other heli's/quads I continuously read this thread. The only modifications that I have made to my 9116 is adding the Honey Bee direct drive tail motor and the addition of navigation lights.

I learned so much reading the original thread and the new thread and I`m amazed at the work that is currently being done to improve this heli. I will be making some of the modifications (i.e. move the PCB, relocate the battery, lighten the frame and eventually replace the main motor when a good replacement is found).

I had my crashes with the 9116 but she is a tough bird. My flying skills were not that good and after repairing it, I bought the V911 so I can practice 4 ch flying indoors. After learning how to fly the V911, I stopped crashing my 9116.

I took Balr14`s advice a long time ago and tried a quad (V929) and that was such a good experience that I built my own quad (i.e. built the frame and bought the components that were recommended).

I`m now working on a 450 heli but I always come back to the 9116 and take it for a spin.

I`ve been able to control all of these with my 9x but have never been able to get the rudder issue resolved when using the 9x on the 9116.

I`m hoping to be able to report back that a 9116 can be controlled via a 9x very soon.

hmm I could send him my 114 pound, well trained German Shepherd to play with. Or the whole pack of four - nothing left to clean up .....

In case you didn't see it....
That PCB orientation has already been done with no adverse results noted. (Most prob where you got the idea from.)
It was a few pages back & the actual positioning & insulation/dampening was discussed but I don't think there was any need to worry about motor interference.

The official "S.S.O.T.B.B." has been launched.
Please note the date for posterity.

ps. When you think about the timing here....I hope the formation of the "S.S.O.T.B.B." is not associated with the video I posted.

Balr14,
Hi, Would you please explain this bit a little better? if possible.
I'm not sure that the flybar will always win if it's getting directional instructions from the head.
Quote:
The flybar provides the brunt of your stability. Remember, it does not want to change the plane of it's rotation. But, part of your stability comes from the head, or more precisely, how much it fights with the flybar to get it to change it's plane; keeping in mind that eventually, the flybar will win.
O.K. with the stability factor but even ref'ing to a hand held spinning bicycle wheel which has much more mass & inertia, it will eventually move to the new position you move it to.

Or am I missing the obvious?

O.K.
It may be resisting your inputs but if it ignores them, which it cannot, then you have no control.
Why build it in the first place if it's not going to respond to any input from the head?
I mean, unless you want to continue on your current course, then the flybar will win, (as you put it), but seeing as these things ride on a fluid/air cushion & you might just want to change direction, occasionally, then it must respond to your input, however slow it is.

It's just a gyro, after all.

Fun? Yep.
Thank you Balr14.

&....I'm still waiting on a heap of parts, plus a few more I just ordered.

My current bird. More mods to come. Just lightening her up and changing the COG made a world of difference. The tail has never been this responsive and it handled 15mph gusts like a champ.
