At least yours weren't as far out as mine were Steve.

Update...
Well, it's the end of yet another week & still no sign/s of the spares I need to get the S 16D set up correctly.

& no iMax charger yet, so am limited to how long I leave the crappy original charger on.

Still hoping for a result......next week, but I won't hold my breath.

& I've fitted the Honey Bee DD motor to a spare tail boom, waiting....waiting...
JC, they're heavy little beasties.

Hey Guys, I need some help. I replaced the tail motor on my 9116. Now, the new motor is totally overpowering the main motor and making the bird spin counter-clockwise really really fast. The main motor is stock. It was flying fine with the original tail motor until it started spinning. Everything I read on fixing the spinning said it was a bad tail motor. So now that I've replaced it, it spins even faster than before. Will a Pro 180 motor cure this? I've got one for it but I would like some feedback before taking the bird apart. I've adjusted trims as much as possible and that didn't work. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Your help is appreciated very much,

J

The spinning tail can also be caused by having the motor wires reversed when installed.

Hi, If you've replaced just the motor, then as Laidback_racer stated, check the polarity.

The blue wire is +ve.

OK - my friends answered your question already...
For short:
CCW rotation (looking from above) means the tail isn't counteracting enough or at all. So your motor cannot overpower the main.
As you replaced with a new tail that leaves 3 possibilities:
1. Dud replacement motor (wouldn't be the first one)
2. Gyro/MOSFET damage (occurs quite often)
3. In your case - maybe wrong polarity/wrong plugged in tail motor ( to verify: the tail rotor has to push the air to the right - looking from behind) #

We can also buy 9 stock motors shipped for that much cash.
The 9100 motor (same motor) at Banggood is $4.15 shipped.

That is why I have not done it (plus I don't have the money anyway).

You could fly 3 times a day for 5 months on 9 stock motors
(figuring 50 flights per motor).
You even get 10 stock motors for 37.90 USD shipped
But who will fly his 9116 for 5 months 3 times a day and not getting bored?
This bird teaches you all it can in two weeks....

i removed and resoldered my MOPS coil a couple of days ago, and the next flight, had a shonky tail response that would suddenly come on full power in midair and spin the heli. i figured that with my severe lack of soldering skills, i might have damaged the MOSFET thing which is right next to the MOPS wire.
but.. i thought that the tail motor was faulty or dying and so not sure of what was what, i replaced it. the problem continued with the new motor immediately when i turned it on to test it though.
but.. now two days later, it seems fine and i'm flying laps at the local sportsground no probs. it seems likely that i put too much heat into the pcb with my clumsy soldering and damaged something. wierd that it went away though. i thought that once you fry a component, its dead...?

edit - it sounds like you had a similar problem pa..

i agree, cheap electronics are unpredictable and sometimes inexplicable

If I try to do hard ff left hand banked turns with my 911 it goes into a "death dive" and there is nothing I can do to pull it out. Right hand ones are OK. Maybe it's just the pilot.

since i replaced my main motor power leads with 1.5 mm speaker wire, i have enjoyed increased power and had slightly shorter flight times. i love the results. the heli flies fast and seems to respond very quickly. thanks for the idea Steve.

Deutsch Mike put me on to a cool low voltage beeper, and after plugging it in and setting it to 3.6 volts/cell, with a freshly charged battery it starts beeping after about 5 to 10 seconds of flight!

it stops beeping when i land, and the readout goes back up slowly, which i figure just shows that the motor is pulling a lot of volts under load (?)

is this because my power leads are letting more juice through to the motor?

i am still using stock 650 mah 10c batteries.. would it help things to get bigger Lipos?

steves above thread makes me think i might be damaging my batteries..
nothing gets any hotter than it did before the mod though
