Question
Old School Conversion Question Speed 400

Hi, I have a couple Zagis that flew on speed 400 motors with 8 cell nicads. What would be an equivalent brushless, watt and KV rating to switch over to lipo 3 cell? Inrunner may mount easier but could probably fabricate mount for outrunner as well.
.

Thanks

The easiest option is a 2835 inrunner of around 2200Kv which would spin a 6x4 on 3s at around 17-18A

Did a quick search for the inrunner and could not find. Hobby King is down. May go with the outrunner.

Thanks for the suggestions!!!!

Mega 16/15/4 inrunner paired with 3S Lipo of 1800-2200mAhr, 6x4 prop, around 24A. Ballistic performance guaranteed! Also check out the HET inrunners.

6x5.5 on 3s gets you 543g @ 80mph from 16.45A/177W

With a Zagi Carbon 5.1x4.9 on 4s you get 642g @ 97mph from 15.10A/207W

Yep. Otherwise you might run into the deadly Zagi flap!! Had that happen till I put a spar in it. I think Tic had something to do with it.

Thanks for all the info!!
Years ago I put a fiberglass spar in when I built the Zagi so maybe nice to revive the wing. Just to save me time from waiting to get home to measure, any remember what length prop the Zagi can use?

I used a 6x4 most of the time. You can always open up the cut between the elevons but I would consider it kinda pointless with this airframe.

Does one really? have to go to motors virtually as heavy as the S400.. Seems a bit much.

Helps to maintain the original balance...especially if the airframe has already been built and flown.
