HK550 FBL servos

Hi

I'm in the process of build an HK550 FBL, I've got a second hand beastx and I've got a hobbywing 100a ESC and CC BEC Pro. The next item I'm thinking about is servos.

The DS610s are undoubtedly good servos, but pricey. The Align 700 comes with DS615s and are not that much torquey than the 610s, so I wonder how much torque the 550 really needs.

So, what servos would be good for the 550 FBL?, what servos have people tried?, any that I should rule out?

Turnigy, or at least items from HK would be handy, I need to orders some 450 parts after I tried drowning mine in a stream

Thanks

Endolf

Hi

Thanks, what do you mean by a short servo?, do you have any experience of those ones?, or heard anything specific about them?, just trying to get as much info as I can before splashing out on anything.

Thanks

I'm running Hyperion DS20FMD's on my cyclics and a DS20GCD on the tail on mine. Good fast accurate high torque servos and available from Robotbirds right here in the UK.

the base to lug height is short most servos need spacers between the frame and the servo mounting lugs to stop them needing to occupy the same space in the centre of the frame. on my bls 451s I have two plates under each servo and they just touch each other.

Just an alternative Gaz, the Turnigys look fine and are actually cheaper too. If I had not already had my servos I would have probably bought the ones you have linked to.

Thanks for the replies so far. The turnigy servos are faster than the DS20FMD's but not as strong, they are 10.5kg and 0.09sec v.s. 16.4kg and 0.13sec, the DS610 are 12kg and 0.08sec. As I don't think all of the torque of the 610s is needed on a 550 I think the Turnigys for cyclic are looking pretty good.

What servo are you running on the tail?, Paul mentioned the DS20GCD.

Thanks

Before I fitted all brushless servos I was using this.

I had no issues with it and it worked perfectly I only changed them because I like the Heli so much I swapped the kit over from another machine.

So 3 TGY-1257TG on the cyclic and the HK47110DMG on the tail sound like a good mix?

Do those all run at 1520u 333mhz?

Thanks

1520 is just the centre pulse so pick the closest spline and then subtrim on the frequency I don't know I would expect them to but they don't state what it is.

Just ordered 3 TGY-1257TG on the cyclic and the HK47110DMG. That just leaves batteries and motor to be decided

I am using these in both a 600 and a 700 size scale bird with great results , they are super fast and smooth so they work well with FBL units.

Unfortunately they ar out of stock currently.

unfortunately at 29mm they would need a shed load of spacers on a 550.

You probably won't be running the cyclic servos at 333Hz. what controller will you be using? The ZYX runs cyclics at 110Hz, and BeastX has options up to 200Hz.
