What kind of planes are you flying with the Astro 010 brushless?

I've got an Astro 010 brushless with the proportional speed controller with no home. I was wondering what models people were using with that motor.

Just about any speed 400 model with a target weight (400 powered) of 16 ounces or less works great with the 010 and small 720/700mah AAA NiMH cells.

I personally have expereince with pylon racers (Skat, Sokol, Stinger) and sport models (Wattage Mirage, Hacker Funny biplane, Wattage Hawk which is one of my favorite 010 powered models, Wipa Speedy). Even on a Piccolo heli briefly although never got much more than a erratic hover on that model before I sold it.

I'm sure I have forgot a few, but you get the general idea. I am sure one would even fly the Wattage cub well geared on 10 cells. Most of my applications were on 10 cells at about 5.5 amps.

Have fun and let us know what you fly it in!

I'm flying one in a Champion, geared, with 10 720NiMH cells. Only gripe is the Astro gearbox that weighs as much as the motor.

Looking around the ol hangar I found a couple more - Flying Styro F-16 as a pusher, Hacker Arrow (briefly), and a few flights on an FMA Razor with 10 cells for thermal/duration flights (ho-hum performance though).

I have the little House of Balsa micro electric cub that was designed specifially for the 010. Sadly it hasn't flown yet as I need to get the 010, but have been lacking money. (Poor College student)

I flew one on an UrbanFlyer. Certainly out-performed the stock GWS370.

I use Astro 010 on my Lil Hornet and the perfermance is excellent.

It's geared with a modified GWS EPS DX A version gearbox (3.75:1 gear ratio), APC 10x7 SF prop, and 10-cell Sanyo 720mah AAA nihm. The rpm is 4,200.

My Lil Hornet has about 788 flights as of today, however, GWS EPS DX A with APC 8x6, 8-cell Sanyo 720 Nihm were used for the first 700 flights. After changing to Astro 010, I am totally amazed by its performance with the right combimation.

Hello MKH:

I set my flight time at 7 minutes full throttle for non-stop aerobatics with my Lil Hornet. It comsumed less than 600 mah, therefore, the caculated current draw is about 5.14 A.

I don't have the right setup for measuring the current, however, the above value might help to get the idea.

What's the full setup in your Mini-Sport (cells etc.) It looks pretty easy to build and could be kitbashed into resembling something else pretty easy.

Herr Mini-Sport setup

Astro 010 with 6x350mah cells and 6x4 APC prop. AUW 8oz. Modified wing to barn door style ailerons. Flying this model more than any other one I have right now. Really nice to have a full house park flyer that can be flown in the wind. Going to be going to 8x720NiMH cells next spring.
