For the Champ? Skis can absolutely be done... but they're NOT NEEDED to learn to fly. (they'll also make the airplane fly differently than stock.. wait till you've got a couple dozen flights under your belt before you attempt anything like Skis)

Take a look at the Champ mods thread, there's everything from tundra tires to mini navigation lights. But, keep it stock for sometime while you learn to fly.

Yeah but you don't need skis for that unless it's going to be snowing in your hand. These planes can be hand-launched and plopped in the snow, no problem. Keep in mind that everything you add to a plane increases the chance of failure.

YEA ! we have another guy who will be able to fly soon and wont drop out . I fly my planes off of a school parking lot they keep plowed and no light poles or trees at one end of it. Good luck with your champ its the right choice to learn and have some fun. After you learn to fly it PM me and i have light depron floats you can build . Good thinking sir . joe

The only mod i would recommend for the champ is getting some 2 1/2" dubro light foam wheels.

Yep, jasmine has it right. I have a friend who has a Dynam Grand Cruiser and he is one of those people who just can't leave ANY model alone. He has a compulsion to upgrade, even though the plane doesn't need it. To date he has modded this plane until it won't fly; literally. He does the same thing with his RC cars. He mods them until they are unreliable. I understand wanting to mod a plane, but sometimes you need to just sit back and enjoy as is.
