I would guess a flat piece of foam in the middle of a large intake cavity would produce a lot of turbulence, increase the white noise sound and not effect performance that much if it's far enough away from the fans intake

how far ahead of the fan should the foam piece be?
how big is that piece of foam?

Usually 10 + blade fan means heavy set up and waste energy for the white sound. But I love a good light weight set up of a lesser blade fan, and some white noise by placing flat foam piece, in front or behind the fan and still have light weight and efficient system

I have ordered a couple of these, I am going to swap them out for the 10 blade fan's I have in my airliner that got damaged blades, I know they will look better but will see what performance difference there is good or bad

I did the foam in thrust tube idea woth the 10 blade. It doesnt add a huge amount of noise at least with the one i did

Definitely looking forward to the differences... I'm hoping for more thrust and slightly less draw with the new design.

Just got mine today and it seems to be made well. I ran it up on my 2W20 and it was pretty smooth outta the box! The adapter has 4 small hex bolts to attach it too the shaft and not 2 as on usuall fans. The shroud seems to be of fair quality also. I do not have the 10 blade to make a comparision too and my watt meter is currenty in the mail from HK so this is about all the fair feedback I can provide as of right now, Oh the shipping was quick from X-flite also! I hope to see more info on the thread as people get their fans, it looks to have potential.

Removing 6 blades might be something to look at. Maybe if someone breaks one blade off they can use it as a test rotor.

I actually broke off one blade by accident on a 70mm CS10 several months ago. So after some cursing, I broke off the adjacent blade on the opposite end to make it an 8blade unit. Runs fine, although a bit noisier than before.

has anybody done testing like amp draw 10vs12 blade?

this fan just came out this month, it will be a few weeks before tests are done.

I noticed the quoted rpm limit is a lot higher with the 12 blade @52000 rpm vs 45000 for the 10 blade

It's going to take some power to hit 52000rpm!!!! I ran it up a few times on my Cyclone 3300 and the fan it pulled off the shaft. I only used 2 of the grub screws to attach it to the shaft on the first run up. So needless to say it needs all 4!! Solid power on the run up's but I will need a lower KV...

What size batt where you using

Turnigy 3000 4S 25C....It needs more punch I know!!
