I used to say exactly the same thing. However, none of my HK motors have lasted more than a season before the bearings start squeeking and/or magnets start rubbing. I don't know about Scorpions (ever owned ones), but the Motrolflys are definitely worth the price.

Yeah...if you were setting up a much bigger plane or helicopter. The appropriate size Scorpion motor is only $110. I say "only" lightly as $110 is still a lot compared to the HK's and others, but I like mine and think it is more than worth it.

Well I've owned a few Scorpions from small heli to 90 size heli and sometimes the bearings need changing straight away. (Don't know if they've fixed this issue lately).
If you don't oil more than regularly you won't get a season out of them...

Yep, they are very nice motors but they insist on using shielded bearings which need oiling. Pretty much every other quality motor comes with sealed bearings that never need to be lubricated.

Dimensions of the main parts would be interesting for comparison purposes.

Out of interest some general dimensions of the AJ original are:
  • Length of fuselage from firewall to rudder post: 940mm / 37"
  • Width of fuselage at firewall: 152mm / 6"
  • Wing root (measured along sloping length of root rib): 325mm / 12.75"
  • Wing tip chord (inc. aileron): 197mm / 7.75"
  • Thickness of wing at root: 37mm / 1.5"
  • Thickness of wing at tip: 28mm / 1.125"
  • Height of rudder: 330mm / 13"
  • Span of tail (inc. elevators): 535mm / 21"

Well, HK already lost business with every 3D pilot I know in Phoenix anyways, and there are a lot of us here. We used to at least buy their batteries and ESCs, but there are a lot more horses in that race now and HK's business ethics are terrible.


People still shop at Walmart because it is cheaper. Customers justify it in different ways, and Walmart doesn't rub their practices in everyone's face.

If Walmart changed their slogan from "Always Low prices. Always" to "Screw You American Manufacturers. Screw You", they might start losing business as well.
