My first Design Scratch Build Project

Just got back from the test flight. I am pleasantly suprised, it flew for 9min! with plenty of power, just a little nose heavy.

Well what do you think,

Watch out for this one, it's 2.5MB!

I've called him Pooch, he's a bit in the rough at the moment, needs a bit of sanding some more curves in etc. The plan is to replace the tail surfaces in foam ones as well, I just reused another trashed planes feathers for now.

Details:

Wingspan: 32"
Motor: Direct drive 280 on 6 * 3 folder
Batteries: 6 * 300Mah Panasonic AAR's
2 * GWS pico servos
GWS 4 channel micro Receiver
5A RCline ESC
AUW 205g (~7.3oz)

Congratulations. This looks like a very well thought out design, and it is kind of handsome too. You must be very proud!

Looks great, with or w/o the face. I'm impressed with the light weight too.

Do you think it could handle some breeze? Will you be trying different props?

That's very cool I like the fact that you can make the nose look like any cartoon caracter. Maybe "Garfield" is next? Can have a cat and dog war.

I think Snoopy needs a aviators hat painted on and a scarf ( Maybe a scarf would be too much drag?).

Thanks for the nice comments guys, I'm just waiting for some better weather so I can test it out a bit more. (Did manage to loop it on it's first flight!)

I have drawn the templates in a CAD program so there easy to change, or though not so easy to make (I'm getting better on the scroll saw) To help with the light weight the fuselage is cut in half and large sections holed out, then glued back together.

Good job Heather. It really is special to make you own and then be rewarded by a great flight! Kinda puts a big grin in there doesnt it

How a bout a tounge flapping about? Envision a dog with its head out of the carwindow...

Oh BTW - I'm flying a s280 ship on 6x720NiHM (AAA/12g pr cell) and Gunther prop => 12-13minutes of full throttle.

Happy flying!

Haldor: thats very cool, I will have to add a real one in this weekend.

I'm having heaps of fun with this little plane. Seems to have quite a good speed range, here's the lil doogie on a fly by earlier this evening.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll make a new tail to match the style of the rest of the animal.
