my edge is ready now, AUW 4530g with gens ace 8s 4000mAh 25c
without spinner and pants the AUW is even 140g less

concerning your prop for the foam slick, I think the 14x7 is too small for this size of model, and it is a bit too small for the kv of your motor IMHO, a 15x7 or 15x8 is the standard prop for 50" planes

cheers
Denis
I think it looks better with a yellow spinner

I donīt care about spinners and wheelpants anyway, I attached it only for the pictures, youīll never see my planes fly with spinners and pants, I simply donīt need the extra weight of these parts

I've got a red one on preorder from MileHighrc. Still shopping for the motor. Thing looks huge compared to the MXS wing.

Thanks Frank. This is the wing area for the 55'' Slick?
It seems like it comes in fast for the landing? Does the model
fly more like a balsa plane than a light weight foamy?
It looks cool though.
What is the all up weight for the model in the video and what power system.

thanks,
Cory

Cory, here's the setup: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...&postcount=21; not sure of the exact AUW, but I'm sure that Frank can answer that.

My servos for this plane arrived yesterday, so I have everything I need to build this plane .

Hi Cory,

AUG for my test flight setup is 2100g.
We also have 55in balsa kits, their wing area are around 610 sq.in. and fly awesome. Here is a video for reference:
Winner's Model 55in Slick 540 50E 20120508 (3 min 48 sec)

We can see the wing area for 55in Slick360 EPP foam is bigger than our balsa kits, it flies more stably.
Attached is a pic for contrast with the same size Slick540 50E balsa.
As to the flying characteristics, I think it flies more like a balsa than a light weight fun fly foamy as you can see in test flight videos.

Thanks Scott for linking to my test flight setup.

Frank

Prop: APC 14*7E: 40g
Spinner: GF 63MM: 30g
Servos: Hitec 5245MG*2 for elevator and rudder: 32g;
Futaba S3001*2 for ailerons: 35g
Battery: Fullymax 3S 2200mah 35C*2 (=6S 2200mah 35C): 350g.

Finally got some work done on the thing last night. Very nice kit. Everything fits very tightly, elevator slid right in without having to do any adjustments or shimming. Still a ways to go but it will go together fast I can tell.

Mine is almost done. I bought a parallel adapter from Hobby King a few years ago and I finally found a use for it; modding it into a series adapter to use on this plane with 2 x 3 cell lipos .

I just need to decide which servo arms to use and hook up the pushrods that are hanging loose at the moment. Then I'll be ready to program my radio and wait for some good weather to maiden it .

My AUW is likely to be around 2160g once it is ready to fly.
