Time for one of my favourite tools - the transfer punch.

Holes marked.

Started with a pin vise...

... finished with a hand drill and 3/32" bit, marked with tape for a 1/2" depth.

For#8 wood screws I'm not sure it's necessary to pre-thread the holes and drizzle in some CA, but I've gotten into the habit with RC so I went ahead.

After that came the covering, then the main gear.

I cut some brass tubing to bridge the gap between axle size and wheel bore.

Then onto its new legs for the first time!

Looks like it came from the factory that way! Onward and upward.

Thanks Ken!

Together again for the first time.

Just a little nose heavy at the rearmost point of the CG range.

Flight report!

After swapping the wheels for some skis, I re-maidened the Hobbistar in warm, beautiful winter weather on Saturday.

It flew very well. On the first flight I needed to trim in some left aileron to keep it level and the first and second flights ended with dead sticks and long walks until I got some help tuning the OS 65 LA glow engine.

The third and fourth flights were excellent. Lots of low, slow passes with the new 3-blade prop and a few touch-and-gos.

I had forgotten, however, how slimy glow exhaust is. I'll be keeping my eyes open for a little gasser - maybe an RCGF 15.

All in all, an excellent re-maiden!

Nice mod you did there. Looks good. I just did the same to my super sportster but haven't had the chance to test her out due to weather.

That is a GREAT pic of your plane over the snow.

Your project turned out just about perfect.

Thanks folks - credit for the picture goes to my buddy Hal, our club safety officer. He got a bunch of great shots.
